This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

As you travel between the hundreds of planets in Starfield, you’ll have to farm many materials, but not every material is as helpful as a Lead. Of course, it is still less valuable than indispensable Credits, but you can’t do without Lead if you want to upgrade your ship or build large outposts. Of course, this material is quite common on many planets, but finding a stable source is not easy. So we’re here to tell you about all the ways to get a Lead in Starfield and the most efficient way to farm it.

First of all, it is worth noting that you can get a Lead in Starfield in three ways:

  • First, you can buy it from NPC vendors.
  • Secondly, you can mine it using the Cutter.
  • And finally, you can farm it automatically by building an outpost.

Buying a Lead is the easiest and most logical way to get this material if you don’t need too much. Most NPCs in big cities, such as Amoli Bava in Jemison Mercantile (New Atlantis), will sell you a Lead for a low price, so you can always visit them to resupply. The disadvantage of this method is that the stock of materials in the shop is limited, and you have to wait 24-48 hours to buy more. You will probably need more than one seller offer.

The second method is free and is related to the third. In short, you need to find a planet with tons of this material on the surface or underground. The game offers hundreds and thousands of unique planets, so you only need to scan their surface and find an abundance of Lead, also known by the Pb icon. Next, you only need to land on the planet and use Heller’s Cutter to walk around the surface and mine the Lead.

An alternative way is to place an outpost and place an Extractor. But be sure to scan the location again using the Helmet Scanner and ensure that there are helpful minerals in this location. Thanks to this, you can automatically farm the desired material for free.

Lead farming is easy, and the above information is enough to succeed. But if you’re new to the game, here’s a step-by-step guide on where to find and farm Lead in Starfield:

  • First, find a suitable location. The game offers a ton of planets with an abundance of Leads, but we recommend starting with Jemison in the Alpha Centauri System or Tau Ceti IV in the Tau Ceti System.
  • Next, scan the ground and find the most suitable location for farming.
  • Install a Beacon to start a new outpost.
  • Next, install Extractor and a few energy sources like Solar Panels.
  • Add some Storage Containers to the Extractor and enjoy the results.
  • In the future, you can improve this outpost to speed up the extraction of materials or make this place more suitable for permanent residence.
