NetherRealm Studios released a new in-depth trailer showcasing actress Megan Fox voicing Nitara in Mortal Kombat 1. Nitara is a vampire who first appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance on the PlayStation 2. Besides some cameos here and there, the character remained dormant until appearing in a small role in the 2021 Mortal Kombat film. Mortal Kombat 1 will be the first time Nitara returns as a playable character since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. The new trailer shows off Nitara’s gameplay while Megan Fox talks about the process of voicing the character.
Megan Fox Voices Nitara in Mortal Kombat 1
NetherRealm Studios will occasionally hire celebrities to voice the characters in Mortal Kombat. For example, Mortal Kombat 11 featured Ronda Rousey voicing Sonya Blade.
Megan Fox is a prolific actress well known for her roles in the early live-action Transformer movies and the cult film Jennifer’s Body. She joins the Mortal Kombat 1 cast as Nitara, which is a peculiar decision considering the character’s obscurity. Nitara received some attention for her brutal death scene in the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie, putting her back into fans’ minds.
Nitara is one of the many PS2-era characters making their comeback in Mortal Kombat 1. She rejoins with her fellow PS2-era co-fighters Havok, Ashrah, and Li Mei. Nitara is given a redesign for Mortal Kombat 1, updating her appearance to look more realistic.
The trailer shows footage of Nitara confronting Ashrah and the other lead characters, suggesting she will return as a major antagonist for the new title. However, Megan Fox talks about how the character is trying to save her species, and while she is evil, she isn’t necessarily on the wrong side.
Mortal Kombat 1 features an alternate timeline from the original games. Liu Kang became a god and now rules over the sacred timeline, engineering it to make it ideal. This has caused changes to the character’s backstory and lore, but Nitara appears more or less the same as in the classic timeline. She is a vampire looking for a way to save her people.
Mortal Kombat 1 will launch on September 19 on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
