The first DLC addition to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, titled The Teal Mask, is officially out, and players can finally explore the new land of Kitakami. The new DLC promises both new and returning Pokemon, along with added story content and a number of other features to enjoy. Game Freak first announced The Teal Mask along with its partner DLC The Indigo Disk in the first major announcement after the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This guide will explain how to start the Teal Mask DLC.

How To Access The Teal Mask DLC in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

The Teal Mask is a paid DLC that is mandatorily bundled with the other DLC pack that will be added to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet later this year, The Indigo Disk. Now that The Teal Mask DLC has officially launched, the content update should immediately begin downloading for all players who have purchased it from the Nintendo E-Shop.

Once the DLC update is downloaded, boot up the game, and the moment the player logs in they should receive a phone call from the homeroom teacher, Jacq, informing the player that they’ve been accepted via lottery into an abroad trip to Kitakami, an area that is completely separate from Paldea and clearly more influenced by Japanese culture than the Spanish culture that influences everything in Scarlet and Violet‘s primary region. From there, the player just needs to head to the main school, Naranja Academy in Pokemon Scarlet and Uva Academy in Pokemon Violet. After entering the building, there will be a new woman, Briar, whom the players can speak with to initiate the DLC and officially head off to Kitakami.

Once the player has arrived in Kitakami, the new story will immediately begin and it’s not long before the player gets their first chance to explore the new territory around them and all of the Pokemon that come with it. Note that Koraidon/Miraidon won’t be available for the players to hop on and explore Kitakami until after a certain point in the introduction is reached.

To summarize how to start the Teal Mask DLC:

  • Download The Teal Mask DLC update.
  • Start the game and answer the call from homeroom teacher Jacq.
  • Head to Naranja/Uva Academy and speak to Briar in the main lobby to start the journey to Kitakami.
