With the new Teal Mask DLC expansion, comes a number of new Kitakami Pokemon for Scarlet and Violet. One of them is the Japanese green tea-inspired, Poltchageist. Armed with a rare Grass/Ghost-Typing and the exclusive Matcha Gotcha Move when evolved, you’ll want to add this one to your Pokecollection. This Pokemon Scarlet and Violet guide will tell you everything you need to know about how to get and evolve Poltchageist in The Teal Mask DLC.

“Supposedly, the regrets of a tea ceremony master who died before perfecting his craft lingered in some matcha and became a Pokemon.” – Poltchageist Pokedex entry.

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask expansion, usually Poltchageist can be found in a bamboo grove area. You will want to head to the far east from Mossui Town or Kitakami Hall until you cross a river. Poltchageists around Level 70 are often spotted in this bamboo forest during the night. It is a Grass/Ghost-type Pokemon, so it is weak and strong against these attack Types:

Weak Against Strong Against
Dark Electric
Fire Grass
Flying Ground
Ghost Water
Ice Fighting (immune)
Normal (immune)

“The more stirring it does with the tea whisk on its head, the more energy it builds up. It does this to prepare for battle.” – Sinistcha Pokedex entry.

To evolve Poltchageist into Sinistcha in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask DLC, you’ll need the two different items. That’s right, two evolution items, because Poltchageist comes in two flavors: Counterfeit and Masterpiece Forms.

For the Counterfeit Poltchageist, you will have to get the Unremarkable Teacup item. It can be found in the Paradise Barrens area, in the northwest corner of the Kitakami Map. You will also have to go there to find the signboard needed to complete the treasure hunt main quest. Head inside a small cave there and you should find the Unremarkable Teacup on the cave’s floor.

Meanwhile, for the Masterpiece Form, you will have to acquire something called a Masterpiece Teacup. This one is inside a cave in the Timeless Woods area. Head to the northeast corner of the Kitakami Map to reach it. The cave should be easy to spot since there’s a sleeping Snorlax guarding the entrance; don’t forget to catch it while you’re at it! If you have trouble finding the caves for Poltchageist’s Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask items, 100% Guides has made a good video walkthrough. You can watch it below.

Use the item on a Poltchageist in your party, and your Sinistcha is ready to serve! Just like its pre-evolution form, Sinistcha is a Grass/Ghost-Type Pokemon. It is the only Pokemon known so far that can learn the Matcha Gotcha Move. Costing 15 PP with 80 Power and 90% Accuracy, Sinistcha blasts its target with a stream of hot tea. It can afflict Burn and Sinistcha’s HP will be restored by up to half the damage dealt.
