Fans will have to wait a bit longer to hear new music from Drake. On Saturday, Sept. 16, the rapper announced that he has decided to postpone his eighth studio album, For All the Dogs. The record was initially set to drop on Friday, Sept. 22, however, its release date has now been pushed back to Friday, Oct. 6. Drake announced the two-week delay in a message on his Instagram Story. He explained the postponement all came down to his album coinciding with the end of his It’s All a Blur tour.

Drake kicked off his It’s All a Blur tour on Wednesday, July 5, in Chicago, Illinois. Since then, he’s performed in various cities across the United States and Canada, including Boston, New York City, San Francisco, and Vancouver. He still has a handful of shows left until he wraps up his tour in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday, Oct. 9.

Since Drake admitted he still has to make some final touches on For All the Dogs before he officially drops it, he was forced to make a tough decision. “Okay my dilemma I am faced with is I either cancel shows to finish the album or I complete the mission and drop the album before the last show,” he wrote on his Instagram Story. “I owe you all these memories we are building and anywhere we have missed to date we will be spinning back for sure.”

In the end, Drake realized it was “only right” to postpone his upcoming album. He announced For All the Dogs would now drop on Oct. 6. The new date means it’ll come out two weeks later than initially intended. While fans are disappointed they won’t hear Drake’s new album next week anymore, they’re also glad it won’t be rushed. “We will all wait,” one fan tweeted. “We wait for Drake,” another wrote.
