While technically not written recently, a “new” letter written by Luigi Mangione has been making rounds online, and it details a list of things the UnitedHealthcare CEO killer is thankful for. He turned 27 years old back in May, so it made sense to him “to reflect on 27 things I’m grateful for.” Shared by X user @TheLuigiTimes, the list contains a variety of people and things that average people would probably add to their own list, if they made one. Among them, Mangione wrote about how Taylor Swift was one of the people helping him get through his jail time.

Luigi Mangione claims that he downloaded several songs by Taylor Swift and Charli XCX, but never really listened to them until he made the list. “I figured I’d see what all the hype was about. So, I’m walking laps on the top tier of my unity listening to ‘Cardigan’ by T Swift,” he wrote. He continued, saying that other inmates recommended that he listen to Lil Durk, who has ironically been recently accused of offering bounties to have several victims killed, according to XXL Mag.

Speaking of his inmates, Luigi is also said to have become a positive role model among his fellow detainees at New York’s Metropolitan Detention Center, to the point of being called an “ambassador” at the jail. “When people get there and they don’t know what the heck is going on, he is kind of the one who welcomes them and does his best to allay their fears,” People reports. Even the staff allegedly likes Mangione, as his solid and polite behavior has built a good reputation in the facility. It’s certainly a positive thing to hear, but it doesn’t exactly let him off the hook from the rather massive accusation of his committing cold-blooded homicide.

That said, many online users feel like he’s mentioning Taylor Swift to perhaps gain some rapport with her fanbase. “He’s evoking the Swifties for maximum lateral parasocial power,” remarks a Redditor. “This is a powerful play,” agrees another. “The swifties are going to break him out of jail,” jokes a third. Of course, listening to Taylor Swift songs in jail doesn’t mean anyone from the fandom will come to his aid. After all, he’s doing quite well in terms of support, with around 30,000 people donating over $1M to his legal fund. In his letter, he also mentions receiving letters from fans, including those wishing him a happy birthday or a happy holiday.

While it’s wrong to celebrate the death of anyone, even a disliked corporate CEO, many Luigi Mangione followers eagerly await indulging themselves in more Luigi lore. This list of gratitude naming Taylor Swift, as well as his ambassador status in jail, definitely has added fuel to the fire regarding people’s interest in him.
