This week, Marvel’s Contest of Chaos ends with a deadly fight between Agatha Harkness and the Avengers. The upcoming Avengers Annual brings this arc of Marvel comics to a close with Earth’s Mightiest up against Agatha and her henchmen. A preview of the climactic finale shows off what is in store for Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and the rest of the team. While Agatha recently received a Marvel makeover, it looks like you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. She is hell-bent on recreating the Darkhold and unleashing chaos on the universe.

Since the popularity of WandaVision, and Kathryn Hahn’s portrayal of Agatha Harkness, the character has become a fan favorite. As such, the character received a much-needed makeover in the comics. The weathered Agatha was rejuvenated with youth and emerged as an adept foil to Wanda Maximoff. Especially with Wanda attempting to right the wrongs of her past…many aided by and done to Agatha.

Since this makeover, the character has become a prominent antagonist in the Marvel Universe. Recently, she has really shown her proficiency for evil in the Contest of Chaos event.

Avengers Annual Preview

Written by Stephanie Phillips with art by Alberto Foche, Avengers Annual #1 closes the Contest of Chaos chapter. Agatha is on the verge of creating a new Darkhold, but the Avengers are hot on her heels. To occupy the do-gooders, Agatha summons an army of henchmen made of the past winners of the Contest of Chaos. This means that the Avengers must choose between stopping the creation of the Darkhold or saving their friends. A choice that will change the universe forever.

A few preview pages for the issue show the Avengers chasing down Agatha on a pirate ship that has emerged in the ocean. As they argue how to best handle the witch, Captain Marvel falls for a trap as she opens a door on the ship. Unfortunately, a surprise foe, one familiar to Captain Marvel, waits to blast the Captain. Who could it be, and what other danger is in store for the team?

Avengers Annual #1 drops on September 27th.
