Fans expect many things from the last episode of a season of television, and Ahsoka might have just delivered. Despite leaving some loose threads hanging, Ahsoka managed to tell a complete and compelling story, even if it wasn’t a contained one. But, it is a Star Wars show, so the ending of Ahsoka was somewhat complex, one that you might not understand if you haven’t seen anything but the movies.
With that being said, you might also be wondering if the last episode has a post-credits scene as well. Something extra that sets up a future Star Wars show, movie, or a second season of Ahsoka. So, let’s take a look at the last episode of Ahsoka’s first and perhaps only season, and discuss everything about the ending, including whether it contains a post-credits scene.
Ahsoka Ending Explained
Don’t be alarmed at Ahsoka’s cliffhanger ending, as Ahsoka’s last episode doesn’t have a post-credits scene. Instead, everything was wrapped up before the credits rolled. Be warned, from here on out this article will be filled with spoiler information, so if you want to watch the Ahsoka finale clean, turn back now. The ending of Ahsoka left all our characters in interesting positions. Our antagonist Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) managed to leave Peridea, with three Nightsisters and what looked like an army of the undead as his cargo. Where was his destination? The Nightsister homeworld, Dathomir.
There was some good news for Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) too, as he managed to disguise himself as one of Thrawn’s Night Troopers. He fled Thrawn’s forces on the Eye of Sion and then he made his way to Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and her New Republic colleagues. While he needed to take off his helmet for Hera to recognize him, Chopper seemed to know exactly who Ezra was when he stepped off the ship. For fans of Star Wars Rebels, this was undoubtedly an emotional reunion. It’s unlikely that Thrawn will let them enjoy that reunion for long.
Unfortunately, everybody else drew the short straw. Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) was killed by Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson), and Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) was last seen conquering some stragglers on Peridea. As for Ahsoka and Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), well, they were stuck on Peridea as well. But that should be fine, they’re hanging out with the Noti, Sabine can use the Force now, and Ezra knows exactly where they are. Plus, we got a glimpse of Anakin’s Force ghost watching over them. But the strangest ending might have been in store for Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson).
Who Are the Mortis Gods in Star Wars?
Baylan went his own way in the ending of Ahsoka, seeking out what he came to Peridea to find. His last scene took place on a large statue, one of the Father, one of the Mortis Gods. The Mortis Gods, also known as the Ones, were beings with powerful connections to the Force. They consisted of the Father, who represents the balance of the Force, the Son, who represents the dark side, and the Daughter, who represents the light side. They were first introduced in a season three episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, entitled Overlords.
The Father foresaw that Anakin Skywalker could bring balance to the Force, and so he lured him to Mortis to try and convince him to take his place. Because if the Father died, so would the Daughter and the Son. Nothing went to plan, and once Anakin, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan arrived at Mortis, the Son tried to kill the Father, killing the Daughter in the process. The Father was then forced to stab himself with the Dagger of Mortis, ending his own life to allow for the Son’s death. With all three dead, Anakin would go on to fulfill his destiny as the Chosen One.
The trio was depicted on Peridea (with the Daughter’s statue crumbled), and they were on the mural that allowed Ezra to access the World Between Worlds in Rebels. Baylan on the statue could be a coincidence, a nice nod from Dave Filoni. But, Baylan himself was a dark side user who was also a former Jedi. In his last appearance, Baylan was looking at a flashing light in the distance. Could that have been a signal from whatever remains of the Mortis Gods? Could he be the next replacement for the Father?
What’s Next For Ahsoka and Star Wars?
There was definitely a plan for Baylan Skoll in the future of Star Wars. He was one of the most interesting elements of Ahsoka, with his ending adding even more curiosity to the pile. Unfortunately, Ray Stevenson has passed away since filming the show, so he will not return to play the mysterious character. He will be missed in future Star Wars projects as his performance was one of the strongest of the season. It’s unclear whether the storyline will be abandoned or if they will recast the character.
As for the other characters, their storylines might be a little easier to predict. Ezra and Hera will probably rescue Sabine and Ahsoka, or they’ll find their way out via some purrgil. Shin Hati might go with them, and her path might be one of redemption. Thrawn’s undoubtedly cooking up something disastrous for the New Republic, and you have to wonder if whatever he unleashes, is what leaves the New Republic open to attack from the First Order. Let’s just hope these threads are picked up sooner rather than later. You can watch Ahsoka on Disney Plus.
