Small details tend to lead to big consequences in a player’s perception of a game. Sometimes, all it takes is a tiny detail to make or break someone’s experience. It’s these minuscule details that help set Honkai Star Rail apart from its fantasy counterpart, Genshin Impact. While these two games are different conceptually, the similarities in style and systems invite many comparisons between the two. Overall, it’s easy to tell that both are HoYoverse properties. Despite this, Honkai Star Rail does have the advantage of being a newer game, meaning that it can easily improve upon the mistakes that Genshin Impact made before it. Though some of these improvements are small, fans have picked up on them and commented on them in hilarious ways.
Honkai Star Rail Meme Points Out Genshin’s Shortcomings
Specifically, a fan on Reddit has created a meme pointing out one of these small Honkai Star Rail details that sets it apart from Genshin. As is standard in many live service games, players have the ability to choose a character profile to represent them online. When looking at Genshin Impact, all these profile pictures are of each playable character staring straight ahead with a blank face. On the other hand, Honkai Star Rail profile pictures have so much more personality, with the characters striking unique poses with better facial expressions. This detail has no impact on the gameplay or story of Honkai Star Rail whatsoever, but aesthetically, the game is so much better off for it. Though these images are taken straight from the Gacha art for the characters, it is a step up over the boring portraits of Genshin.
Genshin Could Stand To Learn From Honkai Star Rail
This isn’t the only detail that sets Honkai Star Rail apart from Genshin Impact. Though the gameplay systems are generally the same overall, Honkai Star Rail adjusted daily quests for the better. Rather than forcing players to go on irrelevant quests, Honkai Star Rail incorporates their daily objectives into your everyday grinds. This change would eventually make its way into Genshin as well, creating an updated Daily Commission system. Additionally, Honkai Star Rail attempts to fix issues that players have with things like the Spiral Abyss of Genshin. The Simulated Universe in Honkai Star Rail is a strong step in the right direction for repeatable end-game content. Hopefully, Genshin will retroactively pick up some of these ideas as well.
