Amazon has set an April 12, 2024 release date for its Fallout TV series, based on the video game franchise from Bethesda. Suitably, today’s announcement coincides with the official “Fallout Day,” so named for it also being the in-game date when the world was turned into a nuclear wasteland.

Details on the show are so far thin, but we do know it will take place in Los Angeles, as was previously announced with a postcard. It is intended as an all-new story for the Fallout universe, but it will be canonical to the games.

Walton Goggins is set to star with Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets), Aaron Moten (Emancipation), Moisรฉs Arias (The King of Staten Island), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks), and Sarita Choudhury (Homeland).

Prime Video has a good track record of big-budget, genre shows. With the release date of the Fallout series finally set, it will join other large productions like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and its superhero show The Boys and its spinoff, Gen V. With its 1950s twist on sci-fi, the production of the live-action take on the Bethesda RPG will be costly, but if done right, it could please fans for it to be another flagship series for the streaming service.

By the time we see the series, the writers will have a better deal than any streaming service deal before the WGA deal. The writers went on strike regarding numerous issues, including problems with compensation. Now, we await to see if SAG-AFTRA can secure a deal so the actors on this show, both experienced and fresh faces in Hollywood, can also earn residuals if the show succeeds.
