Sometimes, a major moment happens in a show that changes everything. Prepare for spoilers after this point as we review the ending of this week’s episode of the Tom Hiddleston series. Producer of Loki season 2, Kevin Wright, broke down and teased the cliffhanger from the end of episode 4, which will “allow us to go to some, hopefully, profound places.”
Spoiler Territory As Loki Producer Teases the Future After Episode 4 Cliffhanger in Season 2
The bulk of the first half of the season has been focused on saving the TVA. The Temporal Loom was breaking down, which could destroy the TVA and be dangerous for the timelines. As a surprise, our heroes were unable to do it as Victor Timely (Jonathan Majors) died in an attempt to repair the Temporal Loom.
In an interview with Games Radar, Wright discusses the mindset that led to that choice for the Loki season 4 cliffhanger. It originated from something the team “started learning in season 1” about the “idea of story acceleration.” Then, they thought of a simple question that put them into the new territory, “What if that [the Temporal Loom] just… breaks right in the middle of the season and everything goes wrong?”
It was a bold move to make in the middle of the eight-episode season. The producer promises “new ground” moving forward. For the characters, it will up the stakes and put them in “dire straits.”
Not only did it allow us a really great cliffhanger, but where you go after that is totally new territory then. If the first four episodes of season 2 are about things falling apart or not working; choices being made that maybe aren’t the right choices, then the back half can really allow us to go to some, hopefully, profound places.”
