To find the entrance to Crystal Descent in Return to Moria, you must go through most of The Western Halls. In one of the distant rooms, you will notice a dim blue glow and find a wooden structure that needs repair. But as you get closer, you will find a large pit whose walls are covered with large blue crystals.

To the right of the wooden structure, you will notice a broken Mapstone that you should repair. You will have to visit this location more than once, so repairs are a low price to pay for saving time in the future. But a much more important step is to repair the Mine Hoist since you will not be able to go deeper without it.

How To Fix Mine Hoist in Crystal Descent

It is worth noting that repairing Mine Hoist is not a time-consuming but resource-intensive process. Without Mine Hoist, you won’t be able to go deeper, so here are the materials you need to collect for repairs:

  • x15 Black Diamond. You can find this valuable material by searching Orkish Chests or defeating the Bolgakh Boss.
  • x20 Elven Wood. Getting this resource is as easy as cutting down a few trees in The Elven Quarter.
  • x30 Natural Fiber. To get this material, you must kill Spiders and destroy their nests.

Once you have collected all the materials, return to the Mine Hoist and rebuild it. This process will only take a few seconds, after which you can descend a little deeper into Crystal Descent. Unfortunately, this is only the beginning of the journey because the steep and sharp crystal slopes of this location stretch much deeper. And you’ll have to do a lot of building to get to The Lower Deeps.

Travel Tips for Crystal Descent

Although you’ve already repaired Mine Hoist, you shouldn’t rush down. To start, return to base and grab as many Wood Scraps and Natural Fiber as possible. Along the way, you will encounter wooden platforms and several hanging ladders, but you will have to build a lot of your structures to get to the bottom. There’s no general advice on how to reach The Lower Deeps, so you’ll have to experiment.

The bad news is that once you go down, you won’t be able to get back. So look around the area, and you will find another broken Mapstone. Repair it, and you can always return to this location without much effort.

It’s worth noting that once you progress through Crystal Descent and reach The Lower Deeps, you’ll gain access to many new resources. For example, you can break small and large mushrooms to get Ubasam Wood and Ironwood. It will allow you to create Tier 3 and 4 pickaxes and mine the strongest ores of this location.

To sum it up, here’s what you need to know about Crystal Descent in Return to Moria:

  • You can find the entrance to Crystal Descent in the second half of The Western Halls.
  • To pass the first crystal line, you must repair the Mine Hoist.
  • Use Wood Scraps and Natural Fiber to build platforms and hanging stairs.
  • Once you descend into The Lower Deeps, repair the Mapstone.
