Like other roguelike titles, the further you make it in your run Risk of Rain Returns the more content there is to spice up the next. It applies to both the abilities of each character and the Artifacts you use, which radically change gameplay. For those ticking off achievements, though, the objectives aren’t always super clear. For example, to get the Altered Genome in Risk of Rain Returns, you need to find the Illegal Shipment. Here’s what that means, and how to tick it off.

While completing various achievements in Risk of Rain Returns, you may notice that the Altered Genome remains locked even after you have completed the game several times. It can undoubtedly be called one of the most hidden secrets of the game since the Illegal Shipment you need is literally in plain sight at the final level.

Of course, it may be difficult for new players to reach it. But once you get used to the game mechanics and choose a character that is comfortable for you, you will be able to reach the final level. Then, you must explore the level until you find the Keycard. After that, you will need it to open the door to the storage room, where the Illegal Shipment in Risk of Rain Returns is located.

The storage room in the Risk of Rain stage is not an ordinary place. You can find chests there that you can open for money and go fight the final boss. However, you should take a closer look at the shelving. In addition to the regular chests, there are also several black ones. They may seem like part of the background, but players can interact with them too.

So, for the Altered Genome achievement, you need to check each of these black chests. In one of them, players will be able to find The Toxin item. Such a dangerous item was specially hidden in one of the black chests. In other words, it is the Illegal Shipment in Risk of Rain Returns. And you just need to add it to your dropped items collection to unlock the achievement.

That’s all you need to know about how to find the Illegal Shipment in Risk of Rain Returns and get the Altered Genome. This achievement is actually easier than it seems since you only need to check several chests in the final stage.
