C.S. Lee, known for his roles in Dexter and Avatar: The Last Airbender has officially joined the cast of Cobra Kai. Lee will join the sixth and final season of the Netflix show as another iconic character from the original Karate Kid. Following Jun Chong’s footsteps from the original movie and Don Lee from earlier seasons of Cobra Kai, Lee will be reprising the role of Master Kim Sun-Yung, the inventor of brutal the Way of the Fist and mentor to the series’ biggest villains.
C.S. Lee Joins Cobra Kai’s Final Season as Master Kim Sun-Yung
Aside from playing Avatar Roku in the upcoming Avatar series, C.S. Lee will also be playing Master Kim Sun-Yung in the final season of Cobra Kai. Appearing in flashbacks in Karate Kid, Master Kim was the mentor of both Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) and John Kreese (Martin Kove). In direct opposition to Mr. Miyagi‘s gentle teaching, Master Kim created the Way of the Fist, a brutal teaching method that has traveled down his training lineage.
Interestingly, Master Kim Sun-Yung has previously only appeared in flashbacks in Karate Kid and earlier seasons of Cobra Kai. It’s currently unclear if C.S. Lee will play a live version of the character or continue to appear in flashback form. Outside of the character himself, Master Kim’s legacy has already impacted Cobra Kai in the form of his granddaughter Kim Da-Eun. Da-Eun, played by Alicia Hannah-Kim (Minx) entered the Netflix series in season 5, when Terry Silver recruited her into the Cobra Kai dojo to continue her grandfather’s legacy.
Outside of his role in Cobra Kai, C. S. Lee’s most recent role is Lee Jung-Gil in For All Mankind (2022). Some of his roles include Sergeant Jimmy Kee in East New York (2022) and Bernard Kim in Chicago Med (2015).
If you want to catch up with Cobra Kai before season 6, catch it on Netflix.
