The first time you hear about the Sea People from Dr. Bacon in Dave the Diver, it really does sound like a myth. Not to mention, it makes Dr. Bacon sound like a conspiracy nut. As it turns out, the Sea People are real, and once you’ve gained their trust, they’ll ask for your help (as if Dave didn’t already have enough on his plate). One of the quests you’ll come across is Kazhin’s Reading Time, wherein Kazhin needs a very specific book and tasks you with finding it in Dave the Diver.

It’s not enough to reach the Sea People Village to unlock the Kazhin’s Reading Time side quest in Dave the Diver. There are a series of side quests you’ll have to complete before eventually fighting the Truck Hermit Crab boss. Only then will you get the chain of quests that leads to Kazhin’s Reading Time.

So, what you want to do first is:

  • Defeat Truck Hermit Crab boss
  • Complete ‘Sea Person at the Workshop’
  • Complete ‘Find the Children’s Bell’
  • Complete ‘Pet Squid Selgio’
  • Complete ‘Wedding Song Record’
  • Complete ‘Repair Kinglon’s Statue’

After all that nonsense, you’ll unlock Kazhin’s Reading Time. You’ll find Kazhin in the Seed Shop. He’ll send you over to the Temple to retrieve a book called, and this isn’t a joke: There are Mutant Sea People in the Basement, and as King I Can’t Just Stand By, I Must Do Something. Oh, and that’s the second volume; I can only imagine what the first volume’s called.

To reach the Temple, use the portal in the village, then talk to Niamo inside, and she’ll try to help. Did you forget the title of the book? Dave sure did, and now he doesn’t know what to tell Niamo.

Apparently, it’s very common for Kazhin to ask for books with ridiculous titles. The good news is she presents you with the cover of three books, and you just have to choose the right one.

To complete Kazhin’s Reading Time in Dave the Diver, choose the book with a merman on the cover. If you highlight the book, it’s described as having “zombie-like sea people,” which matches the title Kazhin gave you earlier. Take it back to Kazhin, and he’ll give you 20 Bei, 15 Credits, and Seaweed Seeds.
