There’s never been a killer like Chucky in Dead by Daylight before. Though he’s tiny and slow when out of power, his Hidey-Ho ability grants him incredible speed and versatility. He’s A-tier material and probably ranks amongst the five strongest characters in the game. Getting the most out of this psychotic doll isn’t necessarily easy, but once you master him, you’ll be able to shred through most survivor teams with ease. If you want to make the most of Behavior Interactive‘s adorable menace, there are a few things you should know. Here are some essential tips for how to play Chucky in Dead by Daylight.
Play to Chucky’s Strengths in Dead by Daylight
The best Chucky builds lean into this tiny killer’s strengths while minimizing his weaknesses. As a high mobility, high aggression killer, he benefits from the same loadouts as Nurse, Spirit, and Blight. Perks like Lethal Pursuer, No Way Out, Pop Goes the Weasel, and Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance work extremely well on him, but don’t be afraid to experiment with different builds. Although he enters stealth in Hidey-Ho Mode, Chucky is strongest when you use Hidey-Ho for the movement and lethality of Slice & Dice. Trying to play him as a straight-up stealth killer like Wraith or Myers wastes much of his potential.
Use Hidey-Ho Mode for Lethality and Distance
Chucky has two modes: normal and Hidey-Ho. In his normal mode, he pretty much plays like any other 110%-speed killer. In Hidey-Ho Mode, Chucky gains the ability to Scamper under dropped pallets and launch a dash attack with Slice & Dice. Practice using Slice & Dice to quickly cross the map. Cutting off survivors, bodyblocking exit switches, and other valuable tricks are all possible. Slice & Dice functions similarly to an Oni Dash but with superior control and the advantage of a better camera. Practice long-distance attacks as well as curving, and you’ll be a menace in no time.
Take Advantage of Third-Person
Chucky is far more than just another killer with an expensive cosmetic. Unlike every other killer in Dead by Daylight, Chucky has a third-person camera. That means you have an over-the-shoulder view rather than seeing the game through the character’s eyes. Perspective is a big deal in DbD, especially when it comes to predicting survivor movements. Chucky has a unique advantage thanks to his ability to peek from behind cover and check multiple areas at once. He’s also much harder to fool with common FOV techs such as the window tech and spins. Practice manipulating the camera in order to maximize the info you have on survivors.
Perfect Your Movements
Chucky’s camera can take some getting used to when you’re learning how to play him in Dead by Daylight. Make sure you stay mindful of your movements. Shave closely around objects during chases so that you don’t lose unnecessary distance. Make use of your Scamper ability to quickly navigate around dropped pallets and through windows to cut survivors off, bodyblocking key areas until Hidey-Ho comes off cooldown, if necessary. Chucky is one of the few killers who can even play around Shack Pallet after it’s been dropped. Instead of breaking it, use Scamper to pursue the survivor and then use Slice & Dice to hit them before they reach the window.
Maintain Pressure with Chucky
Chucky isn’t one of the easiest killers in Dead by Daylight, but he’s one of the best for maintaining pressure Timing your Hidey-Ho cooldown is vital because Slice & Dice is the best tool in your arsenal for finishing chases quickly. Using Slice & Dice returns you to normal mode, so don’t make the mistake of using his power for distance if you know you’ll need it to secure a hit a few seconds later. Add-ons can help you manage his cooldown, but you’ll do better if you play without them to learn Chucky’s basekit first. That way you’ll know what works best for your individual Chucky playstyle in Dead by Daylight and how to make use of these tips.
