Against the Storm is a game where you play the role of the Queen’s viceroy and have to manage the development of a new settlement. Use humans or anthropomorphized animals to achieve goals, increase your reputation, and avoid making the Queen lose her patience. And now, let’s take a look at some tips and tricks for beginners in Against the Storm. In this interesting indie game, it’s not easy to keep track of everything and complete tasks on time, so you’ll have to put your brain to work.
Against the Storm: Best Tips & Tricks
Considering all the mechanics of the game and the requirements for you as a Queen’s viceroy, it is sometimes really difficult to cope with the multi-tasking required. You have to do everything on time, develop settlements, construct new buildings, and improve your reputation. All of this can be difficult for beginners to grasp, so we recommend using the following tips for Against the Storm:
Place the Buildings Correctly
To accelerate the process of collecting resources, you will need to arrange the buildings correctly and organically. This means that you will need to place the appropriate buildings as close as possible to the place where the resources are coming from. For example, Trappers near meat, Woodcutters closer to trees, and so on.
This way, you can save a few seconds each time, which will bring results eventually. Don’t worry because if something goes wrong, you can move the building to another place. Most buildings can be moved, so you shouldn’t have any problems with that.
Everyone Has Their Own Job
Similar to buildings, you will also have to organize the inhabitants of your settlement. Each resident should have a job and be responsible for a process. You don’t want to put all the inhabitants in charge of one building because it won’t bring the desired result, and you’ll just waste time.
Instead, give everyone their own role, organize them organically among all the structures, and then everything will be fine. Also, don’t forget about the interests of the residents themselves to increase Resolve because without it, you won’t win. To accomplish this, satisfy their needs, such as Pickles for Beavers, Skewers for Lizards, Biscuits for Humans, or Cleanliness for Harpies. This is one of the most important tips, so try to follow it all the time.
Don’t Forget About the Queen
A huge role is played by how satisfied the Queen is with your work and how much patience she has. Impatience grows all the time on its own, but it can also be influenced by other factors, such as the low Resolve of inhabitants.
To avoid this, follow the previous advice, and don’t forget to fulfill Orders. Each successful Order will bring you one Reputation point, as well as additional rewards, if any. If the Resolve of your residents is consistently above the threshold indicated on the scale, then you will also passively gain Reputation over time.
Unlock New Glades Carefully
As your settlement progresses, you will begin to discover new Glades that were previously covered in fog. With each new foggy Glades you discover, you will gain access to both new territories and new resources, but it’s not that simple.
In some of the foggy areas, you will sometimes also notice a horned skull icon, with or without an aura. Regardless of what it looks like, this sign means some kind of danger that can be harmful to your settlement. Dangers in such Glades can be divided into two categories:
- Short-term: Deal damage or debuff immediately and then disappear.
- Permanent: The problem will follow you around until you deal with it.
So, before you open up new territories, be well-prepared for everything that may be waiting for you there.
