It’s a convenient month to be an Elder Scrolls fan, as Bethesda announced that Elder Scrolls Online will be free to play until November 20th. Starting today, with the company calling the event an extended weekend, the trial will be available for PS4, PC and Mac users.
The official download period for Elder Scrolls Online began at 12:01 AM ET 16 November for PS4 players, while PC and Mac players on Steam had access at 1 PM ET. Bethesda is adamant that they haven’t forgotten about Xbox One players though, as they stated the Microsoft hardware would be getting a free weekend soon as well.
During the weekend, players will have full access to the full The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited base game, as well as 500 crowns to spend at their leisure. Any progress made during the trial will carry over if the player decides to purchase the game. To celebrate the game’s free weekend, Bethesda is also discounting crowns and all versions of the game, through November 28.
The free weekend comes on the tails of the company’s recently released remaster of Skyrim for current generation consoles. It’s an interesting strategy as player will certainly be in an Elder Scrolls moods, but it begs the question as to whether one of the products might take away players from the other.
Download is available directly through the Elder Scrolls Online website, or through the Playstation Network. Once downloaded, an ESO profile will be required to be created in order to play, as well as 73 GB of HDD storage space (so plan ahead!).
The Free Play Weekend will run until November 20 at 11:59PM local time in Europe and 11:59PM EST in North America, for PS4. For PC and Mac users, the event will end on Monday, November 21 at 10am PT, 1pm EST, 6pm GMT.
