My 7-year-old son and I checked out the Tokyo Treat Box for September today and thought we would share our thoughts on the Japanese treats. ย Tokyo Treat is always an adventure and fun time for us becuase we never know what we are going to get and it’s just fun to try new things. ย So, I am going to give you my and Brayden’s opinion on each item.

Robin: ย When I first smelled them, I thought it was going to taste like some kind of soy sauce but when I tasted them and they simply tasted like corn puffs. ย Not bad.
Brayden: ย “It’s not my favorite but it’s okay.”
Robin: ย A little more work than necessary putting the kit together but worth it. ย I ate the pink ones and they were very tasty!
Brayden: ย “It is one of my favorites. ย It’s okay.” – He ate the blue one and wished he’d tried the pink one after he smelled strawberry.

Robin: ย Tastes like a Strawberry Starburst or fruit chew
Brayden: ย “Mmmmmm, That’s good.”

Robin: ย I thought these might taste like a Pringle based on the picture. ย It is very similar, yet different. ย But not bad.
Brayden: ย He started out saying it tasted like Pringles but then he started making a face and reached for the strawberry chews. ย I’m not sure what changed his mind.

Robin: ย Well, I finally tasted something I did not like. ย I’m not sure why this is popular but they can continue to eat them all they want.
Brayden: ย Saw my face and passed.

Robin: ย It tastes pretty good, like a peach jello.
Brayden: ย Definitely put in the keep pile. ย (Stuck in the refrigerator for later.)

So, it took 3 of us to figure out how to open the bottle. ย Once I figured out you were not going to twist off the top, I realized there was this little “plug” thing attached so I proceeded to push in the middle of the lid and sure enough, a marble dropped into the bottle opening the top. ย Very interesting! ย It was an adventure just getting it opened!
Robin: ย Very spritzy, but tasty.
Brayden: ย It’s pretty good. ย Too “fuzzy.”
We are chilling the rest for later.

Robin: ย Yummy! I don’t know too many chocolate items that aren’t good, though.
Brayden: ย “It’s really good.”

Robin: ย My initial reaction was confusing. ย But, I tried another and the more I tried, the better they got. ย I am curious what kind of cracker the chocolate is covering. ย Very interesting!
Brayden: ย “I guess it’s okay. Not one of my favorites.”

Robin: ย Fresh, Lemony Gumball. ย Not too sour!
Brayden: ย “We definitely are keeping this in the keep pile! The more you chew the sourer it gets.”

Robin: ย This is like an Alka-seltzer in your mouth but a little more tasty with a hint of cola flavor. ย You just let it sit on your tongue and it bubbles!
Brayden: ย Keep Pile!

Robin: ย Very cute cookies with pictures of Disney characters on them and then a chocolate filled center. ย Very good!
Brayden: ย “Mmmmmmm, Keep Pile!”

Brayden took a break and left me with the rest. ย I think his taste buds were going a little haywire. ย As for this Maple Butter Beer Ramune, I am not sure how to feel about it. ย It’s not horrible but it’s not good either. ย It’s just tolerable.

These are a mixture of sweet tarts, smarties, and warheads (in the words of Brayden). ย The interesting thing about these candies is the fact that they are free of 7 common allergens – eggs, milk, wheat, buckwheat, peanut, shrimp, ย and crab. ย They didn’t taste terrible but, again, they weren’t my favorite.

These have an interesting taste. ย It’s like I just needed to keeping eating them but I couldn’t explain why. ย What a confusing experience!
