When it comes to any Soulslike game, we all know we want to do more than one playthrough, or well, at least most of us masochists. However, since we mostly want to try a new build, there are times when we look for things to spice things up. One way to do that is by adding mods. Given how Elden Ring has been out for a while, we’ve decided to put together a list of the best mods you can get that include some balance modifications, new spells, and even expanded multiplayer features. So, without further ado, let’s see how we can make our adventure in The Lands Between Better.
10. Detailed Item Descriptions
We all know that the team at FromSoftware loves digging its game’s lore as deep as possible. However, that also happens with the description of some status effects or even some weapon skills. Thankfully, user Dziggy has put up a fantastic mod that gives you detailed descriptions of most items in the game. Some even include the exact damage that some DoT effects do or even some build-up percentages for effects like Bleeding, making it very useful for any build.

9. Bosses, Npcs, And Custom NPCs as Spirit Summons
Have you ever wanted to have some of the game’s NPCs as companions, or rather, Spirit Summons? Now you can! User satoshi98 has made a mod that allows characters like Ranni, Radagon, and many more to join you during some fights. If you were tired of hearing you’re maidenless by some foes in the game, in the words of Todd Howard: “Who’s laughing now?” There are still some balance adjustments being made to the mod, but it works wonderfully and will add some required help to your playthrough.

8. Clever’s Moveset Modpack
In case you’re bored of the hundreds of spells and skills this game has, modders have made new movesets that bring new flashy abilities to create new builds. Rather than being a sole mod, user Clever has created a mod pack containing several new movesets that range from weapon skills to spells. It has moves that use the Black Flame spells, a few moves inspired by Sekiro, and even some righteous Paladin effects. Truly one of the best mods you can have in Elden Ring; unfortunately, it doesn’t work that well in multiplayer.

7. Pause the game
Let’s face it: FromSoftware is always looking for ways to make their games more challenging, but not including a pause option is a low blow. Yes, we know it is a staple whether we like it or not, and due to its drop-in, drop-out multiplayer options, it makes sense why the game lacks a pause option. Well, it doesn’t anymore. With this mod from user TechieW, you can now pause the game and do other things without fearing returning and losing all your hard-earned runes.

6. Ascended
One of the best mods in Elden Ring is one that pumps up the difficulty even more. With three difficulty settings, this mode by user VanBuinen aims to add more challenge to this title. It increases status effect build-up from bosses’ attacks, adds more bosses to certain fights, and even makes players lose runes over time. The latter is great for those who want to speedrun, but we don’t recommend this mod for newcomers. Yet, if you want to join the 5% of players who’ve beaten the game with this mod, here’s the link to get it.
5. Item and Enemy Randomizer
If you want to make the game feel more like a rogue-like, why not add some randomness to the mix? This is precisely what the Item and Enemy Randomizer mod aims to do. It’ll change starting load-outs, enemy locations, key item locations, and more. It will be very confusing for players who haven’t finished the game, so we don’t recommend this one for a first playthrough. However, veteran gamers might want to try their luck with this new content.

4. Grand Merchant
Kale might be everyone’s favorite merchant in Elden Ring, but this mod makes them even better. By installing this modification, you can purchase almost every item in the game from this iconic character. It’ll feel a bit like cheating, and we can understand why some people stay away from this mod, but it is quite useful for players who want things in a more accessible way without traveling much.

3. Elden Ring Reforged (ERR)
We’ve reached the spots where we decided to include total conversion mods. So far, we’ve shown modifications that change items, bosses, and add spells, but what about those that change almost everything? The first we’d like to feature is Elden Ring Reforged or ERR from user Kirnifr. It is a fantastic overhaul that balances combat and adds new things to make players experience The Lands Between as if it were for the first time. You have new blocking mechanics, a bestiary, a magic overhaul, and much more.

2. The Convergence
The second overhaul mod we’d like to feature, and our personal favorite, is The Convergence. This one got updated at the end of 2023 and keeps adding more features to make Elden Ring feel like a completely different and brand-new experience. One of our favorite things is the addition of new classes you can pick from the start that even change where you begin your adventure. Besides, finding spells is more fun now since you need to find a specific item that unlocks a bunch of spells of any given school, making finding magic more organic and fun. Furthermore, it overhauls many of the game’s dungeons to make them less repetitive.

1. Seamless Co-op
Last but not least, we have the best multiplayer mod for Elden Ring. Seamless Co-op is, to this day, the best mod you can get for the game. It enhances the game’s multiplayer functions and even makes it feel like an MMO at times. You can have players roam around the map at any moment and have them do different activities. Besides, death isn’t the end of one’s journey. Whenever someone dies, they just respawn and can continue playing with others, making venturing into The Lands Between less scary.

As you can see, there are mods for everything, and most of them change things up in this GOTY winner. While the vanilla version already brings enough fun things, we recommend adding a few mods for more challenge, fun, and a different journey in these dangerous lands. Before installing any of these mods, though, remember to back up your Elden Ring files and prepare to enjoy the best additions the community has made.
