Before you dive into Iceborne‘s waist-deep snow, you might want to ensure that your gear is worth its weight in gold –literally–, using Kulve Taroth weapons and armor in Monster Hunter World. This event boss in the game is one of the most difficult to defeat. However, the rewards are golden-hued weapons and armor that also rank among the best. And in Monster Hunter World, it pays to know how to defeat Kulve Taroth.
Preparing for Kulve Taroth in Monster Hunter World
Kulve Taroth in Monster Hunter World is a raid boss though the maintenance updates for the game have introduced favorable HP scaling for solo and duo players. Still, you’ll want to bring a group with you if you’re going in for the first time.
There’s a time limit (as with all hunts in Monster Hunter). You’ll also need other players to help you man the cannons to hasten the most tedious stage of the hunt (chasing Kulve Taroth). Before we get to the stages, here’s what you’ll want to bring in the Kulve Taroth Siege and info about Kulve Taroth weakness.
- Don’t forget your meals before departure, Stamina meals help since you’ll be chasing Kulve Taroth for most of the fight.
- Thunder Element is her weakness during her gold-plated phase.
- Once her gold plating is gone, switch to Ice Element.
- Fire Resist helps a lot with her area attacks. Just pretend the floor is lava. Cool Drinks & Heat Guard work well here.
- Equip Health Boost 3 decorations for reduced faints.
- Equip Partbreaker decorations.
- Practice running, dodging, and diving.
- Greatsword, Hammer, and Bowguns are the best weapons here.
On to the actual fight and their stages.
Tips on How to Defeat Kulve Taroth
We’ll be dividing tips based on the actual stages of the fight. The Kulve Taroth event boss has four stages which you need to complete all the way if you want to reap all the rewards.
Let’s start with the first stage. As we stated earlier, you’ll still want to bring other players with you to help with setting up cannons, boulder traps, and dividing labor to accelerate the stages.
Stage 1
This stage involves damaging Kulve Taroth enough to stop her from moving, basically hurting her enough to become a nuisance. You’ll need to make use of the environmental tools and your own weapons to achieve this.
- If you have four players, dedicate two to manning the cannons, one to manually attack Kulve Taroth, and one as a backup to activate boulder traps and as a healer or support.
- Don’t forget to pick up any part that breaks off from Kulve Taroth. They might be more valuable than you think.
- Try paralyzing her for free hits.
You can cling to Kulve Taroth or mount her while she’s running away.
Once you’ve dealt enough damage, it’s on to Stage 2.
Stage 2
Stage 2’s objective is to break six pieces of Kulve Taroth’s gold plating. This is where weapon types become more paramount since you need something that can break off parts quickly.
- We recommend the Hammer or the Greatsword.
- Ranged weapons also help in your survivability since you’ll get caught in her magma attacks less often.
For this fight, you might also want to go back to camp before chasing her so you can restock potions or Cool Drinks.
Stage 3
Stage 3 is similar to Stage 2 since you just need to keep chipping away at Kulve Taroth’s gold plating. Kulve Taroth might also move to the final boss arena full of magma.
Again, weapon types are important here, and knowing where to position yourself depending on your weapon (which is also your role) is key to getting the most out of this fight.
- Shart or cutting weapons might want to give way to blunt weapons in attacking Kulve Taroth’s head.
- Use paralyzing tools to maximize damage.
- Keep Kulve Taroth focused on melee hunters who are strategically positioned underneath some falling boulder traps. Get her to stay under those boulders.
It’s another DPS check for Kulve Taroth to get you to the final stage.
Stage 4
This is where the whole fight spices up since you need to break her horns. That’s non-negotiable. The hunt can fail if you don’t break her horns.
For that matter, certain weapons are almost mandatory here.
- Ideally, use Hammer or Heavy Bowgun, and aim for her head.
- Use the uneven and sunken parts of the terrain to put your character on the same level as Kulve Taroth’s head hitbox.
- If she becomes paralyzed, don’t forget to use Mega Barrel Bombs on her head before attacking manually.
- If you can’t reach her head or horns, you can attack her arm to force her to trip and lower her head.
Once you defeat Kulve Taroth, you’ll probably need to do it again since the Kulve Taroth reward pool is huge and you’ll likely not going to get the Kjarr or Taroth weapons you want. But you’re probably used to the grind by now if you’re at this point in Monster Hunter World.
