One of TV’s best modern fictional comedians is coming back later this year. Hacks has locked in a spring window for its return for season 3 on Max. No official date has been set, and no trailer has been released by the streaming service. Hannah Einbinder, Jean Smart, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Paul W. Downs, Megan Stalter, and more will reprise their roles.
The series follows Deborah Vance (Smart), a legendary Las Vegas comedian, who takes on a Hollywood mentee, Ava (Einbinder), as she evolves her career. The two seasons follow antics, relationships, and life in the entertainment business. The last season left the pair separating and leaving the door wide open for the next outing.
Hacks Season 3 Sets Spring Premiere Window on Max
The news was announced on the official Instagram page for the series and Smart’s IG. The caption read, “Steppin’ on out. Hacks returns this spring on Max.”
The series was hit with a delay in its production last year due to Smart undergoing heart surgery. It seemed uncertain when we would see the series after its renewal due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes that lasted for a chunk of the year. While the strikes have delayed productions across TV and film, we will at least have one returning show sooner rather than later.
Like many HBO productions, Hacks has been enough of a hit for awards and has season 3 around the corner. The series has won six Emmys on top of 32 nominations. The prizes went to Laurie Metcalf for her guest appearance in the episode Trust The Process, its costumes in The Captain’s Wife, Smart’s performance in season 2, the writing in the first season, Lucia Aniello’s directing duties on the pilot, and Smart’s performance in season 1.
You can catch up on Hacks, as both seasons are on Max.
