Bachelor Nation got more love than it bargained for at the Golden Wedding! The Golden Bachelor live wedding special came with lots of familiar faces and surprises, but none were quite as big as the surprise Brayden Bowers pulled off. The Bachelor in Paradise alums were in attendance, with Christina Mandrell‘s jaw-dropping as her beau dropped to one knee. The live, on-air proposal surprised the other wedding attendees and got the internet talking.
The Couple Went Public Pretty Recently
Brayden Bowers— who appeared on Charity Lawson’s season of The Bachelorette — and Christina Mandrell — who appeared on Zach Shallcross’ of The Bachelor — were first revealed to be in a relationship during the Season 9 finale of Bachelor in Paradise, which aired last month.
Since then, the couple has revealed they are taking things to the next level, with plans to move in together. They’ve also reported Brayden is getting along with Christina’s daughter, Blakely, from a previous relationship.
It’s because the relationship is so new to Bachelor Nation that fans were all the more surprised by Brayden’s decision to propose. After delivering some sweet words to his girlfriend, Brayden said, “I know that I want to spend the rest of my days with you,” as he got down on one knee.
Christina tearfully accepted, laughing as she asked,
“This is why we got our nails done?”
Host Jesse Palmer Reassured Fans After the Break
The crowd around them flocked in to congratulate the pair, although viewers at home were a little more apprehensive about that. Many pointed out that proposing at a wedding is usually not how it’s done.
Fans have been furiously tweeting about how it breaks wedding etiquette to propose at someone else’s wedding. It’s perhaps why host Jesse Palmer ran damage control, addressing it right after the commercial break.
“Brayden called Gerry and Theresa to get their blessing before he proposed,” Palmer said of the surprise engagement before moving on to discuss Gerry and Teresa and the evening’s action.
