This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

The Monkey Paw, like most Cursed Possessions in Phasmophobia, is a bit of a mystery. Sure, we have an idea of what it does, but no real instructions saying “Hey, this is what you can do.” Much like the Spirit Box, or the Ouija Board, there are multiple different voice triggers for the item. However, rather than giving you information, the Monkey Paw grants wishes to the person holding it. However, like all other Cursed Possessions, there is a risk that comes with using the Monkey Paw, and you should keep that in mind.

There are a couple of different categories of wishes that you can ask for. They can be related to the player, the ghost, or something else entirely. Let’s take a look at all of them.

SubjectWishEffect
Ghost“I wish to see the ghost”A ghost event will trigger at the current location of the ghost, and the ghost will be revealed at its location. However, the player’s vision will be obstructed by a dark fog, and after it’s cleared in 5 seconds, a Cursed Hunt will begin. Throughout the Cursed Hunt, the dark fog will remain, but clear up once the hunt ends.
Ghost“I wish for activity”
“I wish the ghost would do something”
Ghost activity is doubled for two minutes, but the fuse box will permanently break and the exit door will lock for a duration of two minutes.
Ghost“I wish to trap the ghost”
“I wish the ghost was trapped”
The ghost will be teleported to its favorite room and will lock all the doors to it for one minute. For that minute, the ghost cannot move, hunt, or use abilities. During that minute, the player won’t be able to move from their current room either and will be locked inside. When the doors unlock, a Cursed Hunt will begin.
Player“I wish to be sane”
“I wish for Sanity”
Every player will be set to 50% Sanity, but passive Sanity drain will be increased for the rest of the contract, and the ghost’s favorite room will move to a different random room.
Player“I wish to be safe”The nearest hiding spot will open up, bu the lights int he room the player is currently in will break, and until the contract ends, the ghost will be able to hear the player who made the wish, and sense if they have active electronics from any distance.
Player“I wish to leave”All exit doors will be unlocked, whether a hunt is active or not. The player’s speed will reduce for 5 seconds, and their vision will be reduced.
Player“I wish to revive my friend”
“I wish for life”
A dead player will be revived, but there is a 50% chance that the player who made the wish will die instantly.
Player“I wish for knowledge”When this wish is made, one incorrect piece of evidence will be eliminated from the wisher’s journal. Immediately after the evidence is removed, a Cursed Hunt will begin in a location close to the wishers. During this time, the wisher won’t be able to hear or see well, which will continue until they die or the contract ends.
Other“I wish for (sun, rain, clear sky, fog, snow, wind)”The weather in-game will be changed to match the wish, but will cause the player to be blind while the weather changes, and will take 25% of the player’s Sanity away. If you have less than 25% Sanity, you cannot use the weather wish.
Other“I wish for anything”Randomly grants one of the above wishes as long as it hasn’t been used yet.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
