This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

The Phasmophobia Spirit Box can be a confusing and rather mysterious tool at times. Sure, the idea is pretty straightforward: grab the box, try to talk to the ghost. However, there’s a bit more to it than that, and most players don’t fully understand. You can ask the ghost specific questions about its location, aggressions, age, and more. With 11 different ghosts that respond to Spirit Box questions, it’s very important to know how to ask them and use them properly, as it could be the difference between and untimely death, and solving the mystery as to what is haunting your map.

It’s important to know exactly what type of ghost your up against in terms of aggression levels. You wouldn’t want to treat the ghost as if it wasn’t a threat if it’s a type that will attack at high Sanity levels, would you?

Location-Related Questions

One of the most important things you can take away from a Spirit Box encounter with a ghost is the location of the ghost. Oftentimes, finding the ghost’s favorite room can take quite a while and can be difficult. You can ask the ghost several questions that will aim you in the right direction.

  • Where are you?
  • Are you close?
  • Give us a sign.
  • Speak to us.
  • Can you talk?
  • Are you here?
  • Is there a Ghost here?
  • What is your location?
  • Show yourself.

Many of the responses you get from ghosts when asking location-related questions to the Spirit Box vary depending on how far the ghost is from you.

  • If the ghost is within 3 meters of you
    • Voice lines including “close”
    • Voice Lines including “behind”
  • If the ghost is between 3 and 5 meters from you
    • Voice lines including “away”
    • Voice Lines including “far”

Age-related Questions

When it comes to determining a ghost type, it’s always smart to be aware of the ghost’s age. In certain cases, it can be the evidence you need to mark off your journal. For instance, certain ghosts, like Thaye, age regularly throughout the haunt. If the ghost’s age changes, you will know the ghost is a Thaye. Some questions you can ask are:

  • How old are you?
  • Are you a child?
  • Are you old?
  • Are you young?

The responses you get will vary drastically, but you must listen closely to the words given in each voice line.

  • Voice lines can include “elderly”
  • Voice lines can included “Young”
