Jill Duggar has said and done a lot of things that don’t sit well with her conservative family. Most recently, she opened up and shared the truth about growing up in her family, their time on TLC, and their controversial religious background in her memoir, Counting the Cost. Discussing the book during a recent podcast appearance, Jill revealed what her parents, Jim-Bob and Michelle, thought about the book.
Jill Found Out Through the Grapevine That Her Parents Read Her Book
During her appearance on The Unplanned Podcast, Jill revealed,
“I’ve heard that they did [read the book].”
Though she didn’t want to divulge the source of the information, she continued,
“I heard they, like, listened to it on audiobook or something. I don’t know … They’re my parents and I’m gonna tread lightly,” she explained, noting she didn’t want to “create more controversy.”
“It’s kind of like when you get together at the holidays and there are just certain things that you don’t just want to bring up,” Jill explained. “said of the situation with her parents. “It’s probably a sore subject.”
Jim-Bob and Michelle Have Had a Strained Relationship with their Daughter for Years
In September, Jill told PEOPLE that she and her dad, Jim-Bob Duggar, “do not have one-on-one contact.”
She elaborated on that during an appearance on Christy Carlson Romano’s Vulnerable podcast, saying, “Once we started having some differences, it got a little rocky there to the point where Derick had to have some really hard conversations with my dad.”
Derick Dillard warned his father-in-law,
“If you keep contacting her directly, I will have to file a protective order.”
To date, Jim-Bob and Michelle maintain a “rocky” relationship with Jill and Derick, but the family did get together for the holidays for the first time in “over a year.”
