Union workers are showing solidarity with one another. Anne Hathaway showed her solidarity today after exiting a Vanity Fair photoshoot to support the Condé Nast Union walkout that has begun today. The Oscar-winner was in the middle of her hair and makeup before being informed of the situation and leaving.

Today, about 400 union members under outlets like Vanity Fair, GQ, Bon Appétit, and more started a work stoppage. The union members are fighting for fairer contracts and to fight alleged unlawful practices. While some strikes have different rules for non-union members, readers and viewers are being asked not to interact with articles, social media posts, and videos from Condé Nast sites.

According to Variety, the actress was in the middle of her hair and makeup to prepare for the photoshoot. A message was passed down from SAG-AFTRA to her team that a work stoppage had begun for 24 hours. She did not take any pictures as she left immediately.

The journalism industry has been plagued with layoffs, poor wages, and other problems, but it has been reaching a breaking point for many. The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, and Washington Post are a few of the many outlets that have seen recent fights for better deals for workers. Condé Nast recently merged Pitchfork with GQ, resulting in major layoffs over the music-based outlet.

Anne Hathaway walking out of her Vanity Fair photoshoot is not a major surprise. She is a SAG member who went through a major strike last year. SAG members stood in solidarity through the WGA strike. In the middle of writers putting their keyboards away, SAG members then went on strike themselves to demand a better contract. While A-listers like the Devil Wears Prada star have their money, they were in solidarity to improve their industry and be by their peers who don’t make the big bucks.
