Events are a staple in Pokemon Go, giving players a chance to catch unique pocket monsters and bask in the themed celebrations. This time around, it’s the Lunar New Year and time to celebrate the Year of the Dragon. The 2024 Lunar New Year event in Pokemon Go will jump head-on into the festivities. You’ve got time to prepare, though, as the event begins on February 5 at 10:00 AM and will last until February 11 at 8:00 PM.

Lunar New Year Pokemon – Debuts and Encounters
The 2024 Lunar New Year welcomes the Pokemon Go debut of Drampa. It’s fitting since the pocket monster so heavily resembles a dragon. There’s even a chance you’ll see a shiny variant of it.

- Dratini
- Fennekin
- Magikarp
- Noibat
- Shuckle
- Skrelp
Additionally, there’s a chance you can encounter a Jangmo-o. But there’s no increased chance of seeing this Pokemon shiny during the 2024 Lunar New Year event.

The details of the Global Challenge remain a mystery as of now, but we’ll update the guide once further information becomes available. For now, let’s address the unique bonuses from the Global Challenge.
Featured Attack Pokemon
If you evolve specific Pokemon during the Lunar New Year event, you will receive a Pokemon with a featured attack. There are five Pokemon total, and we do know the types that they will be:

Wild Encounters and Raids
The Global Challenge also increases the chance of you seeing certain Pokemon in the wild. All but one of them can be shiny, too. There are seven total wild encountered Pokemon, which we’ll list when they’re revealed.
Beyond that, the Global Challenge features 1-Star Raids and 3-Star Raids. Both include one Pokemon each with the pocket monster in the 3-Star Raids capable of being shiny.
