MW3 Zombies Season 2: Wait, There Is No Content!?

Come on, Call of Duty…not like this.

MW3 and Warzone Season 2 roadmap has just been released in the previous hours, and it looks like the Zombies fans are going to be disappointed once more. After the demise of Season 1 Reloaded for adding nothing but Dokkaebi Warlord, it’s now time for MW3 Zombies/MWZ Season 2 to literally add nothing at launch in a zombies-themed update with a Walking Dead crossover.

Whenever we thought about MW3 Zombies, we never said that the map is amazing or that the DMZ integrations are the worst. But with the story of Dark Aether connecting the Black Ops universe and Modern Warfare, I, as a fan, had hopes for seeing more of how the narrative unfolds through action-packed gameplay. Did we see that come true? Nope.

In fact, not only are we not receiving new maps, stories, and missions, but the MW3 Zombies mode is being shunned with every seasonal update. The first season brought Dark Aether, which was a redesigned piece of Al Mazrah’s map. And then there was the one and only mission, “Bad Signal.” Comparing these to the first two Seasons of Black Ops Cold War and even Vanguard, something is missing, something like caring about the Zombies fans.

This becomes even worse when we get to know the roadmap for MW3 Season 2. Check the MWZ section, and you’ll find absolutely nothing coming to Season 2 at launch! After waiting so long for a piece of content that’d keep the half-baked DMZ-looking Zombies going. Not even with The Walking Dead crossover are we getting new Zombies content for MW3 Zombies. In fact, the crossover is going to the non-zombie-based part of the whole Call of Duty HQ: Warzone.

  • A new mission
  • New Dark Aether Rift
  • VR-11, Blood Burner Key, and Mags of Holding schematics
  • New Warlord: Keres

All the mentioned items are coming to MW3 Zombies Season 2 Reloaded, launching on an unknown date. The new mission is focusing on the entity, presumably Samantha Maxis, contacting Ravenov. The new Aether Rift brings players to another location where they get to cleanse the biggest Aether Stronghold. There’ll be three new schematics in which only the Mags of Holding is considered fresh content, allowing you to go on without the need to reload your weapons.

There’s also a new Warlord coming to the map to make things more tied into DMZ, which is called Keres. Now you should note that this Warlord isn’t showing up on every match, so you’ll be getting only one of the Warlords each time you spawn in, which means you’ll only get to fight Legacy, Dokkaebi or Keres in a single match. And that’s it.

We could have at least expected a new set of missions coming to Act IV and discovered more mysteries of the Dark Aether with easter eggs around the area. If it helps Treyarch create a better and more in-depth Zombies experience for next year’s Call of Duty game, it’s all fine. But at least they should’ve said that before the launch of MW3 and maybe kept DMZ going in the Modern Warfare style instead of releasing a $70 experiment.

This gets worse following the news that Microsoft has fired more than 1,900 employees working in different studios. So, to keep our expectations in check, this state of MW3 Zombies in Season 2 will probably continue in Season 3 with the upcoming updates. And that means, if you’re disappointed in MWZ Season 2 content, get ready; it’s probably about to get worse this year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is currently available to play on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
