Maria Menounos has fallen under fire on Instagram for promoting sunbathing without sunscreen and showing herself doing it. The 45-year-old television presenter and occasional Live! fill-in posted for her 1.1 million followers earlier today, and negative remarks were already filling the comments section by the time the post was two hours old.
Showing off her slender frame as she soaked up rays in a two-piece, Maria gave a nod to her caption as she topped up her tan, with the caption coming jointly with the star’s Heal Squad show.
Maria Menounos Angers Fans With Sunbathe On Instagram
Lying on her back as she enjoyed a sun-soaked terrace and rested on a lounger, Maria closed her eyes as she soaked up rays while rocking a strapless bikini top in brown.
Showing off her toned arms and shoulders and her chiseled facial features, the mom of one looked peaceful as she got her Vitamin D in the natural way, telling fans: “Soaking up the sun with my bare skin… with no sunscreen! I know that may sound scary to some, especially because we’re told that not protecting our skin is bad. But from what I’m learning, it’s actually not, you just need to learn the safe way to prepare and use your skin :) In fact, could the sunscreen be causing more harm than good?”
Continuing, the media personality name-dropped Dr. Jack Kuse and the naturopath she’s been working with, Dr. Alison, stating that she’d learned that sunscreen use “actually blocks your skin from doing essential things to run your health.” Here, she mentioned making melanin and Vitamin D as two examples.
“If the sun was toxic, why would nature require us to get it to make Vitamin D?” she continued, quoting Dr. Kuse.
Told She’s Giving Bad Advice
Maria, who bravely shared her journey with pancreatic cancer in 2023, was met with anger in the comments. Many users felt that her advice was misleading, with some even deeming it dangerous.
Gaining over 80 likes was a fan saying: “Yikes this one is hard to digest as someone whose husband is battling stage 4 melanoma. You can get a sunburn in as little as 11 minutes. I can’t get on board with this one 😞.”
While one fan called it “bad advice,” another used the same phrase, but upped it to “lethal advice.” Additionally, Maria was told that a dermatologist would never back this advice, with a further user calling it “stupid advice.” Maria does not appear to have responded to the backlash.
