Lightsabers are picked up for a courtroom battle. Gina Carano has sued Disney and Lucasfilm today, with her lawsuit claiming she was discriminated against and was wrongfully terminated from her role in The Mandalorian. She will receive financial backing from Elon Musk for this legal fight as he keeps a promise to back people who were discriminated against for posts on X, formerly Twitter.
The claim attempts to hold the entertainment behemoth accountable for the alleged wrongful termination and discrimination. The suit urges for a court order to make Lucasfilm recast her in the Star Wars series.
Behind the Lawsuit of Gina Carano Versus Disney and Lucasfilm
The firing occurred in 2021 when she compared Jews in the Holocaust to the treatment of conservatives in modern-day America. It followed scrutiny for comments about pronouns, the transgender community, claims of voter fraud during the 2020 U.S. election, and other right-wing talking points that began backlash from fans.
Gina Carano has made a statement following the news that she has sued Disney and Lucasfilm. On X, she wrote a lengthy post about what had happened and the actions she would be taking. She had written that what actually was that she “was being hunted down from everything I posted to every post I liked because I was not in line with the acceptable narrative of the time.” She wrote that the “smear campaign” used her posts “to demonize & dehumanize me as an alt right wing extremist.”
In the complaint filed, she claims that she had been defamed for not following the company’s politics. Her claims were filed for wrongful termination and sex discrimination. On top of wanting to be recast, she seeks at least $75,000 in damages.
