Even Xbox Devs Don’t Know What Phil Spencer Is Revealing Next Week

Xbox has had a tumultuous week surrounded by controversy because of leaks and reports that suggested that Microsoft was opting to port Xbox exclusives to other platforms. This included titles like the upcoming Indiana Jones, Hi-Fi Rush, Starfield, Gears of War, and even the highly anticipated Hellblade 2 on competing platforms like PlayStation and Nintendo. These titles have been synonymous with the Xbox brand, and their move to other consoles has raised some eyebrows.

This has led Xbox fans to believe that Xbox is turning into a third-party publisher, hammering the final nail into Xbox’s coffin as a player in the console industry. But the outraged doomsayers had some of their concerns allayed when Phil Spencer himself said that there is more information that Xbox has to share on the matter of exclusives and will do so next week.

But apparently, even developers working within Xbox have no idea what Phil Spencer plans on talking about. According to Tom Warren, developers working within Microsoft are confused about what is being revealed, meaning the future of Xbox isn’t common knowledge and might have been a sudden decision due to the leaks.

The stream intends to discuss “the future of Xbox” but what the future holds is a complete mystery at this point. None of the rumors and leaks regarding the multiplatform ports have been denied by Xbox’s leadership, lending even more credence to the murmurs.

Fans of Team Green quickly jumped off the Xbox bandwagon and some even sold their consoles and games. Fearing that Xbox will “pull a SEGA” and drop out of the console race and become a video game publisher through and through. This would undoubtedly be a massive blow to the console maker, one that is irrecoverable even when the Activision Blizzard acquisition is taken into account.

Sony has loosened its grip on some of its older exclusives, porting them over to PC. But Xbox is planning to go one step beyond that by giving up on the idea of exclusives altogether. This would make the Xbox console essentially useless, as buying other consoles would get you their exclusives along with Xbox games. Hopefully, Microsoft and Xbox have a plan that doesn’t include dropping out of the console business, as that would be a huge blow to the gaming industry as a whole.
