One lucky Xbox One exclusive game is being given the chance to rise from the grave, seven years after it was released and promptly forgotten. Released in 2017, Motiga’s Gigantic was a third-person, multiplayer shooter that pitted two teams of players against each other in a battle arena. Unfortunately, it didn’t do very well, especially since it released right alongside much more popular games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Horizon Zero Dawn. However, Gigantic’s story isn’t over yet, as Abstraction and Gearbox Publishing have teamed up to remake this old Xbox One game and bring it into a new age.

Gigantic, which first hit shelves in the summer of 2017, is a third-person hero shooter that pits two teams of five players against each other. Each team also has the assistance of a massive and powerful Guardian and the game boasts an impressive roster of heroes, with 23 to choose from. However, Gigantic’s online servers were shut down back in 2018, less than a year after the game’s release, following disappointing sales in the post-release window. Dead servers and a fanbase that was fairly small to begin with might have been enough to doom the game to obscurity forever, but not if Gearbox Software – the minds behind the Borderlands games, Duke Nukem, and Half-Life – have anything to say about it.

In a new announcement, Gearbox and developer Abstraction revealed that Gigantic would be getting a remake, which is set to be released in April under the name Gigantic: Rampage Edition. The remake will reported feature gameplay improvements, a new game mode, cross-play, new battle maps, and 2 new heroes to join the original game’s roster. Also, Gigantic is moving past it’s originals status as an Xbox One exclusive, with Rampage Edition reportedly coming to Xbox Series X/S, PC, PS4, PS5, and the Nintendo Switch as well.

When asked about the remake, Yoon Im – the president of Gearbox Publishing San Francisco – had this to say about the remake:

“The original Gigantic game from Motiga maintained a passionate and loyal community that kept the spirit of the game alive throughout all these years. It was through all of their excitement coupled with our desire to bring Gigantic back one day that we are thrilled to finally confirm we’re bringing back and making it better than ever with Gigantic: Rampage Edition…To our dedicated fans who never gave up on Gigantic, thank you for all of the support! To new players who love hero shooters and MOBAs, we hope to see you on the airship!”

Yoon Im, Gearbox Publishing

Gigantic: Rampage Edition will be available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, PS4, PS5, and Switch consoles starting April 19th, priced at $19.99.
