There had been rumors floating around that Scalebound had been cancelled. Then earlier this week, Microsoft came out and confirmed that it was indeed calling it quits for the exclusive title, much to the dismay of Xbox One and PC users. Phil Spencer remarked that cancelling the project was a “difficult” decision, but one that would be better for Xbox gamers.

Now, developer Platinum Games and Scalebound’s director, Hideki Kamiya have released statements in lieu of the cancelled title.

Platinum Games apologizes for the cancellation of Scalebound.

The first statement comes from Kenichi Sato, the President and CEO of Platinum Games:

We’re sorry to say that on January 9, 2017, Microsoft Studios announced the cancellation of Scalebound. We are very disappointed things ended up this way, especially since we know many of our fans were looking forward to this game as much as we were.

Going forward, we will strive to continue delivering high-quality games to you, starting with NieR: Automata in March, and including products like GRANBLUE FANTASY Project Re: Link and LOST ORDER in the future.

We will keep working hard to meet your expectations and we look forward to your continued support!

Phil Spencer says Microsoft will continue to take risks going forward.

Hideki Kamiya expressed his apologies on Twitter, writing “As you may have heard, Scalebound has unfortunately been canceled. I’m very sorry to everyone who was looking forward to this game.”

To round everything off, Phil Spencer also personally apologized for pulling the game, saying that doing so “hurt me as well, and to the community, I apologize.” Despite all of the expressions of apology, there still isn’t any concrete information as to why Scalebound was canceled in the first place. In the midst of the uncertainty, Spencer still assured gamers that this will not stop Microsoft from signing third party games in the future. He also stated that moving forward, Microsoft will continue to take risks.
