After Almost 7 Years, the Sequel To Limbo & Inside Has Surfaced

The development of the third game is not inside limbo after all.

This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

When discussing horror-platformers, only two games come to mind, Limbo and Inside. Playdead Studios released its first game in 2010, and its sequel in 2017, and since then have been radio silent about its third title. We know about the third game because when Inside came out, the developers quickly announced that there was a sequel being planned for the game. And it seems now is finally the time for us to get more information about the sequel to Limbo and Inside.

If youโ€™ve experienced either of the excellent works from Playdead, you’re likely aware of why the studio’s games are so beloved. From environmental storytelling to haunting visuals that remain with the player long after the controller has been put down, both experiences are unforgettable.

Playdead is hiring for the new project, and so, the studio has released some artwork that gives us a glimpse into the developer’s latest game. The new game that has yet to be named looks in many ways like Inside: A dystopian sci-fi game with memorable worldbuilding.ย

Playdead revealed via its X/Twitter account that its latest title will show up at the Game Developerโ€™s Conference in San Francisco in March 2024. The two pieces of artwork give a rough idea of what we can expect from the actual game, but there are some more details for keen observers.

The link in the Tweet that invites people to learn more about Playdead and get in touch mentions that the new game is โ€œa 3D, open world, sci-fi adventure set in a remote corner of the universe made in Unreal Engine 5.โ€

Although it may not seem like much, we got a lot more information than expected out of that one sentence. For one, the game is going to be open world, which is odd considering the previous games were fairly condensed story experiences that didnโ€™t have too much replay value beyond diving for lore. Secondly, the engine of choice will make Limbo and Insideโ€™s sequel quite the looker.
