…To rain on your opponent’s parade. On January 3, 2017, yugiohblog writer Jerome McHale teased readers with the promise of a powerful new monster that, well, does basically nothing. On top of that, a big blank space in the article led some to believe that there was supposed to be a picture of the card there. As might be expected, fans bombarded him with questions, so much so that he followed up with another article the following day answering some of the most prominent. No, this wasn’t a joke, no, there wasn’t really a card image there, yes, it’s an actual real card in the next Yu-Gi-Oh! booster pack, etc. Today, this “mystery card” has been revealed: meet Sea Monster of Theseus.

The Titanic never had to deal with this thing.

Sea Monster of Theseus is a level five Fusion monster with 2200 ATK and 1800 DEF. It’s water attribute, a zombie type, and, as promised, has no effect whatsoever. It takes two Tuner monsters as fusion material to summon. But what really makes this latest newcomer to Yu-Gi-Oh! interesting is that, in addition to being a fusion monster, SMT itself is also a Tuner. Every facet of this card is designed to work with many different popular cards and strategies in Yu-Gi-Oh!, and the blog even offers a few tips to get you started.

The easiest way to summon SMT is to use Instant Fusion. From there, it can bring out any rank five XYZ monster, or almost any level six and above Synchro monster. Being a zombie, it even allows for the summon of cards specifically requiring zombie or water Tuners. While this card might or might not revolutionize Yu-Gi-Oh! as the writer bragged, it is currently the only Fusion and Tuner monster in the game. Or will be, once Raging Tempest releases in February.
