Four years after stepping back from the royal family in 2020, Prince Harry seems to be showing an interest in being reintroduced into the fold, much to his wife Meghan Markle‘s dismay.
As the Hindustan Times reveal, sources close to the royal circle said that Prince Harry is eager to return to his royal responsibilities in order to assist the King while he heals, since it is thought to be ‘beneficial for the institution.’
Prince Harry Had Second Thoughts About Life in the U.S.
This revelation comes after a number of health scares within the royal family, including King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis and the Princess of Wales’ abdominal surgery. But after a meaningful visit to the U.K. to see his father, Prince Harry has shown an interest in resuming his royal duties.
Harry could return in a temporary, part-time capacity as a working royal so far as he earns the approval of both His Majesty and his estranged older brother. So far, King Charles III has given his blessing on the matter, provided some strict rules are enforced.
As for William, he won’t be so easily swayed. Reports suggest he is hesitant to welcome Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with open arms as a way to protect his wife Kate Middleton and three children: George, Charlotte, and Louis.
Grant Harrold Believes Harry and William’s Relationship Can Be Saved
Former royal butler Grant Harrold — who worked for King Charles (Prince of Wales at the time), for many years — said that both Harry and Meghan could be reinstated, it would just depend on William’s input on the matter. Harrold told The New York Post that a Sussex return “is possible,” and that William and Harry’s relationship is most definitely salvageable.
“He [Harry] could have a discussion with his brother about resuming royal duties, but obviously there is so much that has happened over the last couple of years and that needs to be sorted out before the Sussexes made a permanent return,” Harrold said.
William and Harry have been estranged for five years now and the details of their altercations can be found in the pages of Harry’s memoir, Spare, which released back in January 2023.
Harry accused William of calling Meghan ‘difficult,” “rude,” and “abrasive,” and said that William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor” during one particularly scrappy fight.
After King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis, Prince Harry revealed his desire to move back to the U.K. to care for his father. Harrold believes that Harry, Meghan, and their children could be fully functioning royals as early as 2024.
