Since launching their website Sussex.com, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been subject to criticism, especially over the use of their royal title. The couple launched the new website on Monday, February 12, 2024, revealing in the “about” section that it encompasses all their ventures through which they are shaping the future. They also included a coat of arms in the website despite forfeiting their claims to the royal life several years ago.
Days later, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dropped another bombshell, revealing a change in their children Archie and Lilibeth’s surnames from Mountbatten-Windsor to Sussex. That seemed like the final blow to the royal family, disappointed fans of the royals and indeed, the rest of the world. Many have since utilized social media and other platforms to criticize the Sussexes.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Branded Hypocrites
Since the news of their website rebrand went public, several netizens have voiced their disappointment at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for using Sussex.com as their domain name. According to critics, the name choice was a lowly attempt to benefit from the royal family even after cutting ties with them and dragging the firm in the mud since Megxit. Many also tagged the duo shameless for trying to have it both ways, which was just impossible. One outraged fan wrote on X,
“The Sussexes are failed in the US so now back to try to be Royals once again. Hypocrite, incoherence, liar and of course they are irrelevant without the Institution. Nasty couple who still taking advantage of the situation. Shame on them after all what they said about the RF.”
Another wrote,
“Imagine, saying, you want to live an independent life start a website that is not royal based and failing. Now imagine having to admit defeat going back to using your royal titles and coat of arms because the deals have dried up. I can’t stop laughing at them! They are the equivalent of a fake Prada.”
Another X user referred to them as the biggest hypocrites in the world, writing,
“Look at them still wanting to be seen as royals and be connected to the ‘awful, racist’ family that made their lives so miserable. These traitors really are the biggest hypocrites in the world.”
A Royal Privilege
Without mincing words, the world seemed to forge a united front to push back against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s use of their royal title, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, or its likeness, on their website, Sussex.com. Thus, the once-beloved royals took a downward plunge into the hard reign of criticism and vitriol.
Notably, the couple formerly operated the website Sussexroyal.com. However, in the aftermath of their step back from royal duties, the Monarchy reportedly mandated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to desist from using their titles or any likeness to their royal heritage for financial gains. They soon adopted the website Archewell.com, eventually opting for Sussex.com as a means to encompass their family and related projects Under one name per the website.
