It seems Insomniac can’t avoid its unfortunate streak of leaks, because when Spider-Man 2 recently got a massive update that brought a ton of fan-requested features, it unintentionally leaked an unannounced DLC expansion planned for the game. The update number 1.02 came out this past week and added New Game+, new suits, suit customization, time-of-day settings, and much more.
This update became the source of the leak when people started using the development game menu and started tinkering around. Insomniac quickly issued a warning, stating that this could easily corrupt save data and trophy progression, but that didn’t deter fans.
Spider-Man 2 DLC Expansion Leaked
The discovered content shows an entire arc of upcoming DLC for Spider-Man 2, and it’s titled the “Beetle Villain Arc.” The name clearly explains who the focus of this DLC is going to be, and anyone who says they expected this is telling porky pies!
Some other details that were uncovered mention the identity of this new Beetle. There are nine options in the developer menu, and even though none of them do anything, one of their names is a dead giveaway. There is an option titled “Beetle Janice Intro” which obviously means that Janice Lincoln is involved.
If you’ve played Spider-Man 2, you will remember Janice as the daughter of Tombstone, who left the life of crime and turned into a family man. Janice becomes Beetle in the comics, a powerful villain who wears an insect-like armor that allows her to fight some of the strongest superheroes out there, in this case, Spider-Man.
Insomniac was hacked not too long ago and a lot of the hacked data revealed future plans for the Spider-Man franchise, and this Beetle DLC lines up with that. This leak does not mention anything about Carnage, which is expected to show up as future DLC for Spider-Man 2.
The developers are working on a fix to hide this developer menu, and it should go live soon. Other plans include a standalone spinoff game similar to Miles Morales for the original Spider-Man, which could focus on Venom as a playable character.
