WB’s Platform Fighter MultiVersus is finally getting an official release, launching on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and PC on May 28, 2024. The title was previously available through an open beta which was delisted last June. Game Director Tony Hyunh revealed the improvements players can look forward to when MultiVersus releases, in a video you can watch below. In short, Player First Games has rebuilt it on Unreal Engine 5 alongside a new netcode, boasting an improved online experience. Hyunh also talked about a new PvE mode, as well as improved combat across the board.
What’s Coming to MultiVersus?
It seems like the game will be launching with new characters, and that roadmaps might be announced closer to launch. The video shows off a couple of new stages based on Dexter’s Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls. A Warner Bros. Games game, MultiVersus already has a fair amount of interesting fighters from across pop culture, like Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, Harley Quinn, and Shaggy from Scooby-Doo. Who knows which characters we might be seeing after the official launch? Of course, we must note that this announcement has come at an odd time for Warner Bros.
The company is in the midst of a spree of questionable decisions, from planning to de-list Adult Swim games, to the fate of Coyote vs. Acme, a finished film that Warner Bros. might shelve to claim as a tax loss. So, you wouldn’t have been the only one surprised that MultiVersus is actually releasing. It’s worth noting that when the game does come out, it will be free to play, like the open beta. Let’s see if it manages to draw back some of the 20 million players who played the game back then. You can play MultiVersus when it launches on May 28, 2024.
