This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Stardew Valley allows you to truly awaken the angler in you by catching a wide plethora of fish, going from the usual breams and trouts to much rarer finds. One of said fish is the Smallmouth Bass, which can only be caught in specific places at specific times of the year. But the fish is not as elusive as they might seem. Here’s where to find the Smallmouth Bass in Stardew Valley.

Where To Find and The Best Place to Catch the Smallmouth Bass in Stardew Valley

You can catch the Smallmouth Bass in Stardew Valley by fishing on both the large pond located in Cindersap Forest, right of the Wizard’s Tower, and on the shores found south of Willow Lane and Leah’s Cottage. Unless you are using the Magic Bait, you will only be able to spot the fish during the Fall and Spring seasons.

For those unsure regarding which location to pick, I recommend that you head to the pond and fish while in the spot showcased in the map below. I was able to catch a good (and consecutive) amount of the fish there even while using the starting Bamboo Pole and Fiberglass Rod.

The Best Lure to Catch the Smallmouth Bass in Stardew Valley

The Dressed Spinner is the best lure for those attempting to get the Smallmouth Bass. The reason for that lies in how the lure will increase the rate at which you will get bites. On the other hand, although not the most practical, the Barbed Hook is my main pick if you are looking to farm the fish while giving as little input as possible. When equipped, the lure will keep the bar almost glued to the fish during catching.

You can purchase the lures for 1,000G at Willy’s Fish Shop, as well as craft the Dressed Spinner by using 2 Iron Bars and 1 Cloth and the Barbed Hook by using 1 Copper Bar, 1 Iron Bar, and 1 Gold Bar after you reach Fishing Level 8.

What About Baits?

The best baits for those looking to catch the Smallmouth Bass are the Wild and Deluxe baits. While the former will allow you to catch multiple fish at once, the latter will increase the rate at which you will get bites.

If you are just starting your journey in Stardew and have yet to unlock the baits above, don’t worry, as the regular Bait is also a great pick. The regular Bait can be acquired by purchasing it from Willy’s Fish Shop. You can check out how to use baits in Stardew Valley by checking out our How to Attach Bait to a Fishing Rod guide.

You can currently play Stardew Valley on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
