Surprise, surprise! Microtransactions are in Dragonโs Dogma 2 and it hasnโt exactly gone over well with the community. In fact, itโs one of the main reasons players are review bombing DD2. Whether you agree with their actions or not is besides the point, but perhaps youโre someone whoโs on the fence. And maybe you arenโt sure if microtransactions are worth the asking price in Dragonโs Dogma 2. Iโll help you parse the pros and cons.
Should You Buy Microtransactions (MTX) in DD2?
First, letโs talk about the utility of the microtransactions in Dragonโs Dogma 2, as well as the cost (in USD).
MTX | Cost |
Explorerโs Camping Kit (Camping Gear) | $2.99 |
Music and Sound Collection (Custom Sounds) | $2.99 |
Harpysnare Smoke Beacons (Happy Lure)** | $0.99 |
Heartfelt Pendant (Gift) | $1.99 |
Ambivalent Rift Incense (Change Pawn Inclinations)** | $1.99 |
Makeshift Gaol Key** | $0.99 |
Art of Metamorphosis** | $1.99 |
Portcrystal** | $2.99 |
Wakestone** | $0.99 |
500 Rift Crystals** | $0.99 |
1500 Rift Crystals** | $2.99 |
2500 Rift Crystals** | $4.99 |
A Boon For Adventurers – New Journey Pack | $14.99 |
Note: ** = Items that can be found in-game.
Aside from the Music and Sound Collection, every item has utility in-game. The Portcrystal is a fast-travel item; the Art of Metamorphosis changes your appearance; Wakestones revive NPCs; the Heartfelt Pendant is given as a gift to improve relationships; the Ambivalent Rift Incense lets you alter your Pawnโs behavior; the Harpysnare Smoke Beacon lures harpies; and the Makeshift Gaol Key lets you escape prison.
Additionally, the Explorerโs Camping Kit is nothing more than a reskin of the lightweight camping gear you can already get in the game.
Now, if you take a step back, the price of the microtransactions arenโt egregious. If youโve picked up the Deluxe Edition of Dragonโs Dogma 2, you already got most of the items listed anyway, though you only get 1500 Rift Crystals and a single Wakestone. If you didnโt, you can purchase a bundle for $15 โ the Boon For Adventurers Journey Pack.
All things considered, itโs a cheap package, but at the end of the day, it still isnโt worth it. Excluding the Explorerโs Camping Kit, the Music and Sound Collection, and the Heartfelt Pendant, the other items can be obtained from simply playing Dragonโs Dogma 2.
I understand the allure, but youโre paying for nothing more than convenience. Even Rift Crystals are farmable from both the world and letting your Pawn frolic with other players. Save yourself a couple bucks, I say. Use that money for food and drinks because youโll need plenty for Dragonโs Dogma 2.
