Filming of the second season of The Last of Us started just a month ago, but it appears Pedro Pascal, who plays the gruff main character Joel, is already finished with the show, with reports revealing the actor appears to have finished filming all of his parts. Huh!? That’s kind of suspicious, right? Indeed, production of the second season hasn’t wrapped yet, but perhaps Pascal isn’t in the season as much, as the focus shifts to Bella Ramsey’s Ellie. Seems par for the course, no?
Pedro Pascal Finished Filming The Last of Us
Okay, okay, I’m just kidding. If you’re reading this, you can probably guess why Pascal has wrapped so quickly. Of course, major spoilers for the ending of the first season and the second game are incoming. But the reason that Pascal seems to be finished with the series so early indicates how faithful this adaptation is to its source material.
Of course, for those who are aware, you’ll know that Joel is killed off at the start of the second game. It’s an infamous fate for a beloved character, and as Pascal is leaving the show early, his fate in the show has likely remained the same. This was to be expected, as the show was mostly faithful to the events of the game, so seeing the reactions of viewers who haven’t experienced Naughty Dog’s titles is going to be something to behold.
These reports come in from Daniel Richtman’s Patreon, an industry insider who frequently posts leaks like this on his page. Filming reportedly started on February 12, and with Pascal’s departure on March 25, that leaves a few months of filming left. Richtman reported to Kotaku that filming is expected to end around August, with a planned release date sometime next year in March or April 2025. Regardless of how you feel about Joel’s fate, it appears the show will follow the same trajectory. Stay tuned!
