After his February arrest, Home Improvement alum Zachery Ty Bryan, 42, was charged with a felony DUI. The actor is facing additional charges because of previous DUI convictions in the last 10 years. This marks his fourth DUI charge, according to USA TODAY. It was recently revealed that Bryan is now facing a misdemeanor charge of a hit and run as well as property damage.
He was arrested for the DUI after a traffic collision in La Quinta, California. Bryan was charged with both a misdemeanor “contempt of court” and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Court records obtained by USA TODAY showed that Bryan refused a sobriety test and had a blood alcohol level of 0.15 or more.
The Latest Arrest of Many
This is only the latest arrest for Bryan, who played Tim Allen’s son on Home Improvement. Four years ago, Bryan was held on charges of felony strangulation, misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree assault, and interfering with making a police report. These charges came about after an apparent argument with his girlfriend.
In July 2023, Bryan was arrested for domestic assault again in Oregon.
The Eugene Police Department in Oregon said in a statement in July that Bryan was booked in Lane County Jail with a charge of assault in the fourth degree after officers “received report of a physical dispute” between a man and woman. Bryan pleaded guilty to two of the charges, while six others were dismissed.
As THR reported back in June, Bryan disclosed details about the arrest, saying the situation “got so blown out of proportion. We didn’t even really get that physical. We got really loud. We were screaming and because we were in a townhome that had [thin walls], everybody could hear. Johnnie was, at the time, just really upset about my situation,” he said, referring to his marriage to Carly Matros at the time, which interfered with his and Johnnie’s relationship. “At the end of the day, [the police] throw a bunch of counts at you because they ultimately want you to plead to something.”
Bryan Turns Over a New Leaf?
In that same interview, Bryan felt as if he had turned over a new leaf and seemed to have curbed his harmful behavior.
“Every day is a new day and there are stresses and triggers, but I’m learning coping skills. I wake up, go on a nice walk, come back and kick it with the kids. I try to enjoy the little moments rather than try to dream for the big moments. It’s an interesting journey as long as we can stay sober. Then things are going to be good.”
