In 2024, you can find survival RPGs around every corner. Each one has different gimmicks that range from dungeon-crawling to portal-hopping and more. However, that doesn’t mean developers have stopped taking a shot at this crowded genre. Loric Games has unveiled a teaser for Echoes of Elysium, an upcoming open-world survival RPG that combines many things we’ve seen in games like Valheim and Enshrouded with a twist: airships. It might sound simple, but it was enough to make me wishlist this title.
Echoes of Elysium Brings Procedural Open-World Survival and Airship Exploration
Of all the things I could’ve imagined for a survival game, airships never crossed my mind. Usually, these titles tend to stick to the fantastic and medieval with the usual horse-riding, boat-building, and glider-diving. While these mechanics aren’t bad, it is nice to see Echoes of Elysium try something new we haven’t seen in other recent games. So far, we’ve only seen a teaser, but if you head to the game’s official page on Steam, you can observe a few more details of this installment. Apparently, there are other features, such as melee combat and camping. However, this is only what I gathered after seeing the screenshots, and it’s uncertain how many more features this experience will bring.
One thing that excites me is the procedural component of its world. While I don’t mind one world for all players, procedurally generated content is always great to explore. Everything is always changing, and that makes every playthrough unique. Add to that airship exploration, which seems to be the game’s focus, and I can already see a recipe for success. Still, it might be too early to judge. After all, all we saw was a teaser, and we haven’t seen any solid gameplay footage. However, the foundation seems strong already. Besides, the teaser mentions some people come from Fallout 4 and Star Wars: The Old Republic working on Echoes of Elysium, so that’s another reason to watch out for this game. Hopefully, we’ll get to see more of it in the future because, as cluttered as the genre might be, I can’t get enough of it.
