10 Years Later, Bungie STILL Hasn’t Improved Warlock Mobility in Destiny 2

If only falling to my death was more enjoyable.

  • Classes In Destiny 2 Are Unbalanced, Leaving Warlock Movement Lacking

Now, I know I can’t be the only one when I say I’m truly fed up with how frustrating it is to do any type of platforming with a Warlock in Destiny 2. For real. It’s been ten years now, and we’re still using the same old, can’t-jump-for-crap, minimal Mobility Warlocks. You’d think that sometime over the past ten years, Bungie might have noticed even a single one of the loads of complaints about Warlock Mobility and thought, “Hey, maybe if we fix this, players will be happy with us.” Nope. They tried, and I’m not happy about it. Bungie’s great idea for a quick solution was a whole new subclass that has grapple. Great idea in theory, but shouldn’t movement be more of a necessity rather than something locked behind an expansion and campaign?

When it comes to Destiny 2 and Warlock mobility, something could have and should have been done years ago. However, in the Lightfall Expansion, Bungie finally gave Warlock players something to alleviate the issue with the new Strand subclass and its potent Grappling Hook “Grenade.” It’s an excellent mobility tool and lets Warlocks avoid the dreaded slow hover of death. However, there are some major issues with Strand and its grappling hook.

  • It’s 40 dollars for the Expansion, and over 100 dollars if you get the annual pass with it.
  • It’s technically a “Grenade,” so you are bound to a long cooldown no matter what.
  • You have to finish the entire campaign before you can use it, so you’re stuck suffering through some of Destiny 2‘s worst content for a subclass that doesn’t really live up to the hype.

What the heck is Strand supposed to do for players who are just starting out and making their way through the Riskrunner quest for the first time? Absolutely nothing. What will Strand fix for casual players who can’t bring themselves to drop money on an expansion? Nothing, again.

Any Warlock should be able to move around and do what any other class can do from the beginning. Yet, for the entire duration of Destiny’s life, we Warlocks are still being left in the dust—or, more accurately, left on the ground and falling into chasms that we couldn’t make the jump to cross.

The bottom line here is: If Titans and Hunters have decent Mobility, how does it make any sense to give Warlocks trash Mobility? Warlock mobility is easily the worst of the three classes, with Hunters in the best position.

Is it too much to ask for the ability to complete missions that require platforming without having to use additional means to get from platform to platform? Lately, with The Whisper back in Destiny 2 after the release of Into the Light, I feel this more than ever. I really just want to jump effectively without falling short of my mark. With all the great things happening in Destiny 2, I just wish we could see some improvements to things that have been an issue since the beginning.

She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
