Maria Georgas was a fan-favorite on Season 28 of The Bachelor. There, she competed for Joey Graziadei’s heart, coming up short as the fourth runner-up. She was equal parts lovable, interesting, and enmeshed in drama during her time on TV. That’s why it’s not entirely surprising that Maria revealed to Call Her Daddy‘s Alex Cooper that she nearly was this season’s lead in The Bachelorette.
Maria Was ‘In Fittings’ For The Gig When She Changed Her Mind
Maria Georgas says she had initially agreed to be The Bachelorette, but had a change of heart during the process.
It was mine until I said it wasn’t. It became very overwhelming to the point where I had to decline.

The reality star said that everyone in her life was “supportive” of her taking on the role, but she wondered why she wasn’t happy despite committing to this next step.
It took me realizing that it’s not my time where I was like, guys, respectfully, I need to decline. I need to take a step back. I was not in the right headspace for this.

The newly single woman feels good about her decision and is psyched to see a friend step in as the next Bachelorette. She explained that she could tell Jenn Tran was ready to enter that space in a way she personally wasn’t.
She is the most perfect Bachelorette in my eyes. I couldn’t think of anyone better to do this. And she was so ready for it and that was enough for me to say, ‘Yeah, it’s not my time.’ It was a hard time because, again, everyone was so wanting this for me. I just needed to be home with my family and friends and take that time off, to be honest.

The Reality Star Also Has No Regrets About Not Ending Up With Joey
Maria Georgas isn’t brokenhearted at how The Bachelor played out either, admitting things between her and Joey Graziadei wouldn’t have worked out once they got back to their everyday lives.
As friends, we were so funny together. We liked the same movies, had the same banter, and obviously we liked each other. I don’t know if I could have given him exactly what he wanted all the time. I don’t know. But I think that we were great friends.

Looking forward to taking some time for herself, Maria plans on enjoying the connections she shares with family and friends. She’s also about building healthy habits to take into a new relationship when she’s ready. In the meantime, she’ll be watching Jenn Tran as the first Asian American Bachelorette. Her season will also include a new Bachelor mansion, making it a fresh start for the franchise in more ways than one.
