The 2024 Met Gala produced some fantastic looks, along with some that were just plain disappointing. This year the Met Gala saw a few new faces as co-chairs, and some returning faces. All around, for the most part, the styles we saw resonated with the theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening,” while some of them just did nothing for us and were rather bland. Let’s check out all the best and worst looks from the 2024 Met Gala.
2024 Met Gala’s Best Looks
With appearances from Tyla, Zendaya, and Lana Del Rey, there were bound to be some unforgettable looks in this year’s Met Gala. Though, I don’t think anyone was truly expecting the gorgeous spectacles put on throughout the evening.
10. Sydney Sweeney
Sydney Sweeney arrived at the 2024 Met Gala wearing chic leather gloves paired with a Miu Miu gown. The look features dainty blue flowers with dark contrasting stems, as well as a long, tulle train that adds a dramatic look to her style. Looking like she should be in a fairy tale, this actress hit the nail on the head when it came to dressing for the event’s theme.
9. Cynthia Erivo
Cynthia Erivo put the evening’s first ‘dark’ twist on the Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening theme, and it’s safe to say that Cynthia did it quite well. She paired a Thom Browne tuxedo style with pink flower petals and an assortment of lady bugs, grasshoppers, and butterflies. She paired the style with a pair of platform heels and a long, flower petal-covered train.
8. Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa didn’t quite cover the theme of the 2024 Met Gala too well, but whatever she was going for, she did it well. She arrived in a Marc Jacobs vampire-style black lace outfit, paired with a white corset and lots of black feathers. She paired the look with Tiffany & Co. diamond jewelry.
7. Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid’s look this year was quite bold, and more of a masterpiece than a gown. She wore a white corset dress with a white silk suit coat hanging from her hips. The whole dress is covered in vibrant green vines and leaves, as well as yellow roses, which are all hand crafted out of millions of beads.
6. Mona Patel
Mona Patel might not have been known by too many before the Met Gala this year, but now, she’s definitely made a name for herself. Patel arrived in a gorgeous corset dress featuring butterflies across her arms, on her bodice, and throughout her gown’s train. However, the most extravagant thing yet, is that her dress actually moved to appear as though the butterflies were flapping their wings.
5. Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande, who put on quite the performance at this year’s Met Gala, appeared in a mother of pearl Loewe look that screams “fairy.” Paired with fairy wing accents and a long, silk chiffon skirt, Ariana chose the look because she felt so inspired by it. Grande mentions wanting to choose a look that envisioned light and nature.
4. Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj took the theme of this year’s gala quite seriously with her floral-themed look. Her short dress flares out to embody an hourglass while the 3D flowers covering her dress, perfectly capturing the theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening” and the Garden of Time dress code.
3. Lana Del Rey
Lana Del Rey showed up in a look similar to that of an Alexander McQueen style from fall 2006, but with its own unique twist. She wore a full-length silk corseted gown with hand crafted hawthorn branches, as well as a sheer tulle covering over her head, held up by the branches. She tunes her style toward the nature side of the theme, and did it so well.
2. Zendaya
Zendaya, as always, absolutely wowed us with her whimsical blue and green gown this year. The co-chair for the 2024 Met Gala wore a John Galliano gown. She paired the look with flowing Tulle as well as hummingbird and berry accents to really dive into the Garden of Time dress code. She pairs the look with red-toned makeup and a tulle netting headpiece.
1. Tyla
Tyla’s look this year was easily the most memorable, and it also put the biggest twist on the Garden of Time dress code. She played on the ‘Time’ portion of the code quite hard and arrived in a gown meant to resemble sand. She complemented the look with a pair of tan heels, an hourglass, and sparkling sand on her arms and shoulders.
Worst Looks From the 2024 Met Gala
Now that we’ve seen the best looks that appeared at the Met Gala this year, it’s time to take a look at some of the worst ones.
10. Rachel Zegler
Rachel Zegler arrived to the 2024 Met Gala in a stunning Michael Kors sequined gown. The look was quite beautiful, but it lacked any real connection to the event’s theme or dress code. This look should have been saved for a different event.
9. Jennie
PINKBLACK’s Jennie arrived in a blue minidress with cutout styles and flowing fabric that looked quite beautiful. However, as beautiful as it was, it didn’t quite match the theme of the evening’s event once again. This look was somewhat underwhelming for the Met Gala, but elegant nonetheless.
8. Da’Vine Joy Randolph
There are just some places that you should, and others that you shouldn’t wear denim, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph learned the hard way that the Met Gala is not the place to try it out. While the look is pretty interesting, it has absolutely nothing to do with the theme or dress code. Cute dress, wrong place.
7. Sabrina Carpenter
Sabrina Carpenter arrived at the Met Gala in an Oscar de la Renta look inspired by flowers. Her gown had a black velvet bodice, accompanied with a satin skirt that resembled the flowers of an orchid. Both her and her date had no type of coordination going on at all with their looks, and it didn’t really fit in with the evening’s theme.
6. Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian sparked a bit of a controversy with her 2024 Met Gala look. The influencer arrived in a mermaid-style John Galliano look with a tight silver corset bodice paired with a long, lace skirt and a cardigan. However, it was the wildly tight corset that did in her look and caused so many issues. She could hardly walk up the stairs, much less speak or breathe. This look was definitely a mistake.
5. Cardi B
Cardi B showed up to the Met Gala wearing the most space-consuming look among the guests. Her Windowsen gown was devoid of any color aside from black, but it definitely turned some heads. I would say that this look didn’t align with the theme of the event at all.
4. Lizzo
Lizzo arrived at the Met Gala wearing a unique style by Weinsanto gown that resembles a vase. The look features flower petals and sheet fabric wired up to look as if she in inside a vase. While this fit the event’s dress code to an extent, it just wasn’t the best look.
3. Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez is almost famous for having no variation in her looks, and it shows quite well in her outfit for the event. She wore a crystal beaded, butterfly-inspired gown that really could have used a bit of color. Her look greatly resembles the same look she had for the past few Met Galas she attended.
2. Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner arrived in a basic Oscar de la Renta bridal gown, featuring a coned chest and pointed heels. The look was quite basic for an event like the Met Gala, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the evening’s theme or dress code.
1. Doja Cat
Doja Cat arrived in the absolute worst look of the 2024 Met Gala. She wore a white bath towel wrapped around her head with a floor-length oversized white t-shirt, paired with a crying makeup look and platform heels. It’s obvious that this style didn’t even hint at the evening’s theme or dress code.
