Adam is the second to the last boss in V Rising and he can be just as tough. He’s supposedly the biblical Adam, kept alive through infernal contraptions and technology, and you’re supposed to wake him up for a fight. As you can expect, he’s cranky about it. Hence, I propose you come in prepared by perusing our boss guide on how to find and defeat Adam the Firstborn in V Rising.
How to Get to Adam the Firstborn in V Rising
If you progress long enough and slay enough bosses, you can reach Adam in the V Blood interface. You’ll want to be Level 88 or even 90 to fight him.
You can also just track him down and it will lead you to the Northwestern edge of Gloomrot. However, you’ll hit a roadblock along the way. Adam the Firstborn’s boss arena is a whole fortress prison/lab designed to keep him inside and anyone else outside. The gate is barred and electric-powered.
If you try to attack or open the game the traditional way, you’ll get stunned and then the environmental lightning might murder you. Here’s how to open Adam’s prison.
Craft an EMP to Bomb the Gates
While you can use the Bat Form to fly past the wall and gate, the arena has a roof. So you’ll still need to follow these steps:
- If you don’t have the Fabricator already, build it. You’ll need to slay Ziva the Engineer first, for the Fabricator recipe.
- Select the Fabricator structure and fulfill the requirements for the EMP.
- Iron Ingot
- Power Core
- At most, you only need two EMPs, but it’s good to have a few spare backups. These are bombs that you need to destroy the gate in Adam the Firstborn’s fortress. Once you have the EMP, equip them in your hotbar.
- Place the EMP near the gate of Adam the Firstborn’s area and attack the device, preferably with a ranged weapon. This will trigger the EMP and destroy the electric gate.
- There are two gates here, one for the outer wall, and one for the actual prison. It’s better to destroy both.
Once you have destroyed the gates, they’ll remain destroyed for roughly one hour (real-time). This gives you ample time to fight Adam.
Also, you can’t just walk to Adam and trigger the fight after destroying the gate. He’ll remain asleep and dormant. Follow these further instructions to wake him up.
How to Wake Adam the Firstborn
- From the gate you destroyed with an EMP, head inside the roofed building. But don’t go into Adam’s room yet.
- Facing Adam’s room, look for a staircase to the right of the door outside Adam’s room. Follow these stairs and the corridor they connect to.
- You’ll eventually see a lever. Activating this lever will wake Adam up and trigger the boss fight. So before you pull this lever, you might want to buff up with all your potions and ready your build. Because this is one tough battle.
How to Defeat Adam the Firstborn
It’s a complex boss fight made harder by the environmental hazards, namely the lightning towers that create intersecting electric lines in the arena. These can deal high damage and it’s hard to find resistance items against Storm Magic in V Rising, if there are any at all.
Adam’s boss fight is divided into a couple of phases, each with its own triggers. But in all phases, the lightning towers are present. You can destroy some of the lightning towers to give yourself more wiggle room, but they’ll power up again after a minute or so.
In any case, here’s a breakdown of what you can do for each phase.
Phase 1: Mostly Melee Attacks
In this phase, Adam in V Rising is somewhat slow and predictable, and you usually don’t have to worry about moving around too much and there’s not much of a need to make room by destroying the lightning towers. Try out these tips.
- Strafe around Adam; he turns slow enough for you to just manually dodge using only movement.
- Ideally, use weapons that let you attack while moving or strafing like the Slashers, Sword, or Axes. Keep attacking Adam while strafing. Pistols are also good ranged alternatives.
- It’s a battle of attrition and endurance, don’t get greedy with your attacks. Focus on avoiding Adam’s attacks.
- You can use healing potions while strafing, just don’t get hit or they’ll get canceled.
- Don’t attack Adam while his Barrier is up.
- Avoid Adam’s grab attack as much as possible or he will displace you and throw you off rhythm.
- Also, avoid the electric lines, especially the intersections.
Once you bring Adam’s health down to zero, the fight is not over yet. He will regain half his health and it’s on to Phase 2.
Phase 2: Mostly Magic Attacks
This is where Adam becomes less predictable. In this phase, Adam will punish ranged builds and players so you’ll still want to stick close to avoid some of his most devastating ranged attacks.

V Rising: How to Unlock Bat FormYou’ll also need to time your dashes well to take advantage of the invincibility frames whenever Adam uses his ultimate Storm Leap move where he’ll crash down after leaping and charging up. Moreover, certain attacks cannot be countered. Look out for Adam’s slam attacks.
Expect to be defeated several times before you get used to his patterns. The fight is a lot more manageable if you have other players helping.
As for the reward, it’s worth it. Adam’s Soul Shard amulet is one of the most powerful in the game, perhaps even the best for weapon-based builds.
V Rising is available on the PC and PlayStation platforms.
