Though there were no royals beside him in attendance, Prince Harry got to enjoy the love of family while in the United Kingdom. On Wednesday, the Duke of Sussex attended the Invictus Games Foundation’s 10th Anniversary celebration at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The event was similar to the Paralympics but catered toward wounded servicemen and women, as well as veterans. While many hoped the U.K. event would bring some royals out, outside of the Duke of Sussex, none were in attendance. He did, however, have support from Princess Diana’s family.

Many royal fans hoped for some kind of family reunion between Harry and his estranged brother, Prince William, and his father, King Charles, who is currently ill with cancer. While no senior royals appeared in support of Harry and the Invictus Games, he did have family members there for him.

Two of Princess Diana’s siblings — Charles Spencer and Lady Jane Fellowes — attended, as well as three of Harry’s cousins — Lara Spencer, Louis Spencer, and George McCorquodale.

The family members could be seen greeting one another outside the church. Once inside, Harry sported a huge smile as he greeted his relatives, appearing comfortable and at ease.

Ahead of the trip, a spokesperson for Prince Harry confirmed to Huff Post that there would be no meeting between father and son.

In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme. The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.

Of course, it’s disappointing to see another opportunity where the family could, in theory, get together, but they have been unable to make it happen. It comes amid a difficult time for the royal family, both internally and on the world stage. It’s hard to say what happens as time passes, but it’s clear that many in the U.K. do wish for a moment of reconciliation and peace between members of the family.
